  • Publication number: 20040201610
Abstract: A multimedia player parses a presentation script for delivering to a user a presentation that is comprised of a video, slides and tangential content. Each slide is associated to part of the tangential content and to a specific playback time or frame within the video. The presentation script describes the relationships among the video, the tangential content and the slides. The multimedia player has a presentation control unit which provides the graphical user interface for displaying the video and the slides, and for allowing the user to manipulate the presentation. The player allows the user to select one of the slides to access the tangential content which has been associated to the slide according to the presentation script. In another embodiment, a presentation authoring tool allows a user to generate a presentation script describing the relationships among a video, a set of slides, and a set of tangential content.

  • Patent number: 5875186
Abstract: A network with wireless links is a dynamic learning system which allows a mobile (wireless) unit to determine which access point (wired) unit provides the mobile unit with the best communications as the mobile unit roams within an area and from area to area. As a mobile unit enters a new area, it scans the area to find an access point unit. After the mobile unit is verified by the access point unit, the mobile unit receives updated information about other access points in the area, including information indicating which access point units are within wireless transmission range of the mobile unit as well as multiple values indicating a communication range for a particular access point unit to the mobile unit. The information is updated as the system gathers new information through the mobile units and access point units within the system area.

  • Patent number: 5729680
Abstract: A wireless network is initialized by communications between mobile units forming an ad hoc network or by communications between a mobile unit and an access point unit. Mobile units transmit announcements in order to establish a communication link. To ensure the announcements are received, the mobile units scan different frequencies at various times using various hop sequences. Once communication is established, one mobile unit adopts the hop frequency of the other mobile unit according to a comparison between the hop frequencies of the two units. Multiple mobile units initialize to form ad hoc networks in similar manner.

  • Patent number: 5717688
Abstract: A wireless network transmits information to mobile units which indicate communication ranges of particular access point units. Each mobile unit scans traffic on the network communications channel (typically frequency hopping radio transmissions using spread spectrum). As a mobile unit leaves one area and enters another area of the network, access point units in the new area transmit information, which the mobile unit receives. The transmission includes information indicating which access point units are within radio range of the mobile unit as well as multiple values indicating a communication range for a particular access point unit to the mobile unit. The mobile unit uses this information to establish communication with desired access point units.

  • Patent number: 5232364
Abstract: A support plate for an orthodontic anchorage fitting designed to be removably attached to a dental crown analog. The plate has curved slots at each end for passage of screws used to attach it to a sidewall of the analog, so that the plate can be adjusted on the sidewall around an axis that is between the slots. Pivot means can be provided in the sidewall and the plate for locating the plate pivotally on the sidewall. The plate is made of a material, such as stainless steel, to which an orthodontic anchorage fitting may be attached by welding.

  • Patent number: 5157738
Abstract: An improved ART2 network provides fast and intermediate learning. The network combines analog and binary coding functions. The analog portion encodes the recent past while the binary portion retains the distant past. LTM weights that fall below a threshold remain below threshold at all future times. The suprathreshold LTM weights track a time average of recent input patterns. LTM weight adjustment (update) provides fast commitment and slow recoding. The network incorporates these coding features while achieving an increase in computational efficiency of two to three orders of magnitude over prior analog ART systems.

  • Patent number: 5082442
Abstract: A dental crown analog for anchoring an orthodontic archwire to a dental implant fixture installed in a patient who is edentulous at the site where such anchorage is desired has a hollow tubular passage integral with the analog and extending mesially-distally through the analog close to an adjacent buccal or lingual surface. This passage has a slot-shaped opening at one end, the larger dimension of which is generally parallel to the adjacent surface, and the larger dimension tapers toward a smaller generally cylindrical cross-section between its ends or at the other end. Where the smaller cross section is between the ends of the passage the other end of the passage also has a slot-shaped opening. A tube for holding the archwire may be fitted in the passage, rockably mounted in the smaller portion of the passage.

  • Patent number: 5071345
Abstract: A dental crown analog suitable for orthodontic anchorage mates with an endosseous dental implant fixture to provide such anchorage at an edentulous site. The crown analog is tapered down toward the transverse dimensions of the implant fixture above the gun line, to minimize the accumulation of bacterial plaque, and to facilitate cleaning by the patient during the process of orthodontic therapy. A standard abutment fixed to the implant fixture may be used with a dental crown overlay fitted over the abutment to provide a choice of crown sizes and shapes.

  • Patent number: 4988292
Abstract: An abutment for orthodontic anchorage is mountable on an osseointegrated dental implant fixture in the same manner as components used to support prosthodontic restorations. This abutment is adjustable around the axis of the implant fixture, and it supports a mount for holding an orthodontic anchor fixed to a buccal or a lingual side of the abutment. The mount is adjustable around an axis running between the buccal and lingual surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4722071
Abstract: An intelligent compiler particularly useful for evaluating Boolean expressions such as those associated with ladder structures. True/false paths are defined through the expressions. In a first pass for the code generation, the start code for examining each element is set out. In a second pass the relative offsets for branching from one element to the next element along both the true and false paths are filled in. In practice, execution time for evaluating ladder structures is reduced by an order of magnitude over prior techniques which use source code and an interpreter.
