  • Publication number: 20090062813
Abstract: A slave manipulator manipulates a medical device in response to operator manipulation of an input device through joint control systems. The stiffness and strength of the slave manipulator are adjustable according to criteria such as the mode of operation of the slave manipulator, the functional type of the medical device currently being held by the slave manipulator, and the current phase of a medical procedure being performed using the slave manipulator by changing corresponding parameters of the control system. For safety purposes, such changes are not made until it is determined that it can be done in a smooth manner without causing jerking of the medical device. Further, an excessive force warning may be provided to surgery staff when excessive forces are being commanded on the slave manipulator for more than a specified period of time.

  • Publication number: 20070162188
Abstract: An irrigation control device has a controller sealed within a watertight housing. The control device also has an antenna, power supply and battery charging device, such as a solar array. The controller receives signals through the antenna and updates one or more watering schedules stored in a memory module, based on the received signals, and generates control signals to execute a watering schedule. The battery charging device recharges the power supply and the irrigation control device requires no external electrical connections for power or control. Control signals are generated in a central controller remote from the rotor, and are preferably transmitted to the rotor antenna through a commercial paging or other type of public broadcast network.

  • Publication number: 20070103294
Abstract: Systems and methods may enable first incident responder management and support. System and methods enabled by software may utilize communications networks and location based systems such as the Global Positioning System (GPS) to locate the incident and response units, and to relay and share critical incident management information for use by other emergency response operators associated with an emergency scene. Maps and icons may be accessed and utilized over devices in the field. Software modules enable a system operator to use maps and a selection of user interface objects such as custom icons symbolizing a list of responders (police, fire, rescue, military) called forward and may designate specific geographic positions for managing a crisis.

  • Publication number: 20070007088
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring the applications of carbon-carbon brakes of an aircraft to determine brake condition and operate a brake maintenance program or charge a brake system user. The system and method includes monitoring each actuation of the brakes and making a separate record of each actuation of the brakes in which there is relative movement of the facing friction surfaces that cause wear, and from that separate record determining brake usage. The monitoring may include measuring changes and processing the signals to distinguish between those which fall below and those which are above a threshold value. The method and system may comprise sensing a plurality of braking parameters having values dependent upon the wear in the system and different faults of the system, and identifying and recording wear and faults based on combinations of values of the parameters.
