Patent number: 7668562Abstract: A method and apparatus for geofencing mobile transmissions. The method includes determining a geographic location of a mobile transmitter. Then, a geographic interference contour of the mobile transmitter is determined. The mobile transmitter is operating over a specific frequency at the geographic location. A neighboring service contour is then determined. The neighboring service contour is associated with an FCC license that allows transmissions over a specific channel that includes the specific frequency. The interference geographic contour and the service contour are compared to determine if there is overlapping. Thereafter, transmissions from the mobile transmitter are controlled in order to comply with FCC regulations.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2004Date of Patent: February 23, 2010Assignee: Trimble Navigation LimitedInventors: Harold L. Longaker, David Bird

Publication number: 20090235087Abstract: Persistent protection for application-specific or dependent software such as a workbook for use with independent software (such as Excelâ„¢) includes encryption of at least some instructions or other key information before distribution hence providing intellectual property security and (optionally) location security. The cooperative decoder module provides means for secure and controlled decryption of the secured content, if the cooperative security module has confirmed an authorised environment. The invention provides persistent security such that the secured content remains encrypted and is barred from access such as by a hacker, so cannot feasibly be amended or published.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 24, 2005Publication date: September 17, 2009Inventor: Geoffrey David Bird

Publication number: 20070100825Abstract: A process for sorting large files or structures is disclosed where improved performance is achieved by reducing the work involved and the time required to do record key comparisons. The reduction is achieved by transposing and saving the key data from each record into a representative form that can be more quickly compared each time the key comparison is required. In addition the process uses pointers to avoid the processing time to exchange records larger than one word in memory. The representation of the key data is optimized and aligned for comparison by word based computer instructions which are typically faster than byte based instructions. The process is optimized for word sizes and instructions which handle words larger than four bytes and in particular for machines and instructions with 64-bit or larger word sizes such as the Intel Itanium series processors.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2005Publication date: May 3, 2007Inventors: Russell Guenthner, Clinton Eckard, David Bird, John Heath

Publication number: 20070055445Abstract: A GPS information service system for providing supplemental GPS correction and signal acquisition information to subscribers. A GPS information server broadcasts GPS aiding information encrypted with subscription keys. A remote GPS subscription unit receives the key enablers for the subscription keys in service activation (SAM) messages for the services for which they have subscribed and then uses the subscription keys to decrypt the GPS aiding information. In order to prevent unauthorized access to the information, unsymmetrical signature generation and authentication algorithms are used for generating and authenticating signatures for the SAM messages.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2006Publication date: March 8, 2007Inventors: James Janky, David Bird, Ann Ciganer

Publication number: 20060279455Abstract: A positioning system or synthetic phase processor or rover station for providing high integrity positions with graduated accuracies. The positioning system includes one or more real time kinematic (RTK) reference stations for receiving GPS signals at established reference positions and measuring reference phases. The positioning system or the rover station selects a synthetic offset vector and uses the synthetic offset vector for inferring synthetic reference phases to a synthetic position. The rover station uses the synthetic reference phases with actual or virtual reference positions for determining a rover position having an added positional error controlled by the synthetic offset vector. For another embodiment a secure rover station dithers a secure position with a synthetic offset vector for providing an unsecure rover position having the added positional error.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 8, 2005Publication date: December 14, 2006Inventors: David Bird, Dennis Connor

Patent number: 7066325Abstract: A media storage container includes a back wall with base and lid pages hingedly connected to the back wall. The base page has a hub to hold a first item of recorded media. An internal page is connected to the hinge wall and has a hub on one surface thereof to hold a second item of recorded media and a hub on the other surface thereof to hold a third item of recorded media. The hub on the internal page facing the base page is offset from the base page hub so that each hub helps hold discs on the facing page. Likewise, the hubs on opposite sides of the internal page are offset for the same purpose where additional internal pages are included.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2004Date of Patent: June 27, 2006Assignee: Nexpak CorporationInventors: David A. Publication number: 20050249470Abstract: The present invention relates to photonic crystal fibers, in particular to photonic crystal fibers that guide light by virtue of a photonic band gap. It is an object of the present invention to provide such fibers that are formed from materials having higher refractive indices than silica. The object is achieved by an elongate waveguide comprising a core with a relatively low refractive index and a photonic band gap structure that can substantially confine light to the core, the structure comprising elongate regions of relatively low refractive index interspersed with elongate regions of relatively high refractive index wherein the band gap resides above the fifth photonic band of the band gap structure. Alternatively the photonic band gap may have a V0-value in the range 130?V02?160. Alternatively the waveguide has a lattice pitch ? and the elongate regions have a transverse dimension d, wherein the photonic band gap has a normalized centre frequency k0? in the range 5?k0??6, when d/?=0.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 9, 2004Publication date: November 10, 2005Inventors: David Bird, John Pottage, Timothy Birks, Matthew Banham

Patent number: 6879283Abstract: A method and system for communication in a real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning system by paging. An RTK positioning system having a reference station and a rover utilizes a paging system for data transfer. A single satellite positioning system (SATPS) reference station may be coupled to the paging system to provide RTK correction data, or multiple networked reference stations may be coupled to the paging system to provide data. Paging systems using allocated paging bands having fixed width channels (e.g. 20 kHz) such as those between 35 MHz and 36 MHz or 43 MHz and 44 MHz may be used.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2003Date of Patent: April 12, 2005Assignee: Trimble Navigation LimitedInventors: David Bird, Harold L.
