Patent number: 8548625Abstract: An optical vend sensing system for use in vending machines employs a row of light emitters on one side of a region through which a vend product passes during delivery and a row of light detectors on the opposite side. Each detector is substantially aligned with a corresponding one of the emitters, and is capable of receiving light from any of more than one of the emitters when that emitter is activated. The emitters are individually activated in sequential, round-robin fashion and multiple detectors are monitored for each emitter when activated. Publication number: 20120246963Abstract: An apparatus such as a hand dryer is configured to expel air in the form of a heated flowstream and an unheated flowstream. The heated flowstream results from active heating, such as would occur when the apparatus exposes the air to a heating element. The heating element heats the air to a temperature that is greater than the air in the unheated flowstream. The apparatus can direct each of the heated flowstream and the unheated flowstream to an exit plane, which defines a first side on which the apparatus prevents the heated flowstream from mixing with the unheated flowstream. The exit plane also defines a second side on which a target can reside. The heated flowstream can mix with the unheated flowstream on the second side, wherein mixing can occur when the heated flowstream and the unheated flowstream impinge on the target.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2011Publication date: October 4, 2012Applicant: World Dryer CorporationInventor: David Boyd Fisher

Patent number: 8251638Abstract: Apparatuses and methods are provided for a wind diverter at least partially encircling a wind turbine support column to direct the wind from an area around a wind turbine to the rotor blades of the wind turbine. The wind diverter may also reduce turbulence and increases the laminar flow of the airstream delivered to the rotor blades. Additionally, the wind diverter increases both the volume of air and the velocity of the airstream reaching the rotor so as to increase the rotor speed. Increasing the rotor speed increases the energy available to the wind turbine. Energy increases as the cube of the rotor speed and the increased energy produces an increase in the power generated by the wind turbine. The wind diverter also allows a wind turbine to begin producing energy at lower initial wind speeds due to the concentration of air.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 2009Date of Patent: August 28, 2012Inventor: Stephen David Boyd
