    Abstract: Systems and methods for wide format ink printing are described. In one embodiment, a tension module for wide format inkjet printers is described which includes a throughput roller comprising a material having a length to diameter ratio of at least 10:1 and a friction coefficient value less than 1. The tension module further includes a plurality of pinch rollers adjacent to and supporting the throughput roller, and a motor operable to rotate the throughput roller. The plurality of pinch rollers and the rotation of the throughput roller in combination are operable to draw the print medium between the plurality of pinch rollers and the throughput roller.

    Abstract: A system of printing borderless images on printable media includes at least one sheet of printable media including an imaging surface and a non-imaging surface. The system further includes a removable extension strip having a front surface with an adhesive zone and a non-adhesive zone, a non-adhesive back surface, and a straight line of demarkation between the adhesive and non-adhesive zones. The adhesive zone is configured to removably adhere to the non-imaging surface, and the straight line of demarkation is configured as a placement guide for adhering the adhesive zone of the extension strip to the media. An associated method includes adhering an adhesive portion of removable extension strip to a non-imaging surface proximate a trailing edge of the media, and ink-jet printing an image on an imaging surface of the media using an ink-jet printer. The strip is used by rollers in the printer to advance the media.

    Abstract: In a hardcopy device, a print media advance mechanism for moving a print media past a printhead and including a device for adjusting the size of successive advance movements in dependence n printing parameters, the adjusting device is capable of adjusting said size to have an increased resolution, at least in a part of said range. In some embodiments the hardcopy device is set in dependence or one or more of: print mode being employed, ink density, print media width and whether a sheet or roll media is being employed. In some embodiments, a printing operation is preceded by calibrating operation in which a plurality of patterns are printed corresponding to different sizes of media advance and a user selects the optimal value based on visual inspection of the patterns; the different sizes are distributed within a range of values in a non-linear manner.
