Patent number: 8306949Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium for copying a file are disclosed. A plurality of location identifiers are stored that include a location identifier of a removable memory and a location identifier of a memory of a portable electronic device. A file is stored in a memory of the portable electronic device, where the file is associated with the location identifier of the memory. In response to a user interaction with a user interface of the portable electronic device, the location identifier of the removable memory is associated with the file, where the user interaction includes a user selection of the file to copy. In response to the associating the location identifier of the removable memory with the file, the file is copied from the memory of the portable electronic device to the removable memory.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 2009Date of Patent: November 6, 2012Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Jesse Donaldson, David Creemer

Patent number: 8037208Abstract: A method and system for restoring basic functionality to a portable computer system via a server accessed remotely by telephone. A user of a portable computer system which has lost data and software which was held in volatile memory may connect to a server to restore basic functionality to the portable computer system. The server may be an enterprise or a web-based server. The connection may be made, for instance, over a 1-800 or a 1-900 telephone line. The server transfers sufficient software to the RAM of the portable computer for it to regain basic functionality. For example, synchronization software may be transferred to the portable computer. The portable computer may then use the synchronization software to synchronize via the server or host connection more fully in order to restore lost data or lost software applications that were stored on a server or on a host computer system.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 2007Date of Patent: October 11, 2011Assignee: Access Co., Ltd.Inventor: David Creemer

Patent number: 7899778Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include a method and system for a category based user interface for management of information stored on auxiliary storage of a portable computer system, e.g., a PDA. In one embodiment, files can be copied to a removable storage unit by changing the category name to which they are assigned. For example, a game that is stored on the main memory of a PDA can be copied to a memory card by changing the category of the game to a category that is associated with the expansion memory. In another embodiment, the user has the option of keeping the application in two categories or deleting the original instance. For example, after copying a game from the PDA to a memory card, the user can decide if the game will remain on the PDA or it will be removed. Alternatively, an application can also be copied from the expansion memory to the main memory by changing the category of the application to a category that is associated with the main memory.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2001Date of Patent: March 1, 2011Assignee: Palm Inc.Inventors: Jesse Donaldson, David Creemer

Publication number: 20100287139Abstract: Sharing information between a host computer system and a peripheral computer system. Conduit programs running simultaneously on the host computer system synchronize information between the two computer systems. The conduits initiate multiple time multiplexed transfers across a single communication link between the two computer systems. In general, one or more conduits can perform a non-transfer task while another conduit can simultaneously perform a transfer over the host-peripheral communication link. The conduits may be used to load software onto the peripheral computer or to exchange e-mail between the two computer systems. While one active conduit is performing a task that does not involve use of the communication link, the other simultaneously executing conduits can use the communication link to transfer records between the host and the peripheral computer system.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2010Publication date: November 11, 2010Applicant: PalmSource, Inc.Inventors: David Creemer, Chris Raff

Publication number: 20080032673Abstract: A method and system of automating two-way beaming of information from one handheld electronic device to another handheld electronic device. Specifically, the present invention discloses a method and system for selectively transmitting business cards, calendar appointments or executable programs from one device to a requesting device. The receiver makes the selection of a response. The receiver accepts the information, accepts and automatically transmits information of the same category, or rejects the information based on a user choice. If the user select the receive and transmit option, the device will automatically receives and file the information and sends information of the same category to the initiator of the transmission. The two-way transmission of information appears as one integral transmission between the users. In one embodiment, the data to be exchanged is business cards and the devices are handheld computer system.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 12, 2007Publication date: February 7, 2008Applicant: PALMSOURCE, INC.Inventors: Neal Osborn, David Creemer, Rod Alligood

Publication number: 20070271355Abstract: A method and system for gathering, collecting, and supplying geographically distributed data. In one embodiment, geographically distributed data is gathered in a server-commanded mode, such that the user of an electronic device need not participate in the capturing or transmitting of the data. In another embodiment, a server initiates requests the user of an electronic device to input data and the data then transmitted to the server. In another embodiment, a user initiates the capture of data with an electronic device and the electronic device transmits the data to a computer server. In another embodiment, the gathering of geographically distributed data is accomplished by the user of an electronic device instructing his electronic device to automatically collect input data and the data is then transmitted to a computer server. In embodiments of the present invention, the electronic device is a palm-sized computer system.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2006Publication date: November 22, 2007Inventors: David Creemer, Roger Flores

Publication number: 20060135130Abstract: A method and system for communicating with a communications network using message-queues is disclosed. The method includes establishing a wireless link from a mobile device. The method also includes retrieving a request from the mobile device, the request including a server address. The method further includes sending the request over a communications network to the server corresponding to the server address. Further still, the method includes retrieving information from the server corresponding to the server address. Yet further still, the method includes placing the information from the server corresponding to the server address into a queue corresponding to a mobile device. Still yet further, the method includes awaiting a wireless link to the mobile device and sending the information from the queue over the wireless link to the mobile device.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 12, 2005Publication date: June 22, 2006Inventors: David Creemer, Steven Lemke

Patent number: 6671700Abstract: Sharing information between a host computer system and a peripheral computer system. Conduit programs running simultaneously on the host computer system synchronize information between the two computer systems. The conduits initiate multiple interleaved requests to transfer information across a single communication link between the two computer systems. Thus, the conduits initiate time multiplex transfers across the single communication link. In general, one or more conduits can perform a non-transfers task while another conduit can simultaneously perform a transfer over the host-peripheral communication link.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2000Date of Patent: December 30, 2003Assignee: Palm Source, Inc.Inventors: David Creemer, Chris Raff
