  • Patent number: 4615132
Abstract: In a fire arm of the self loading pistol type having a reciprocating breech block slide (B) with a detachable breech block insert (F) holding a cartridge extractor (M) and a firing pin (S), the insert (F) is held in position in the slide (B) by means of the rear sight (N) of the fire arm. The rear sight is of bifurcated construction, the two limbs locating in respective vertical slots in the sides of the insert (E) and the top in a transverse slot in the slide (B). One limb (N3) of the bifurcation may contain screw means for adjusting the height of the rear sight, such adjusting means thereby being protected against damage and dirt.

  • Patent number: 4610801
Abstract: An aqueous slurry of mineral particles, for example calcium carbonate and/or calcium hydroxide, has a mineral solids concentration of at least 40% m/m and contains an agent that maintains the slurry at a pumpable viscosity but that acts as a flocculant upon dilution of the slurry. Suitable agents include cationic and amphoteric polyelectrolytes having nitrogen-containing groups, for example polyamines and dimethyl diallyl ammonium chloride polymers. The slurries may contain other components for example a synthetic hectorite or a dispersing agent such as a polyacrylate, polymethacrylate or polyphosphate. The slurries are useful in papermaking and in the treatment of sewage.

  • Patent number: 4594935
Abstract: In a locked-breech, short recoil, pistol type fire arm, the breech block slide (B) is provided with a separate locking block (E) engageable with both the barrel (C) and the slide (B) and accommodated between the underside of the barrel (C) and the upper surface of a movable trigger guard (D). Hold open means (X) are provided operable in the absence of cartridges in a magazine (T) or in the breech to allow the slide (B) to be held in the fully retracted position and simultaneously to release the trigger guard (D) for limited forward and downward movement, the trigger guard being provided with means which on movement of the trigger guard cause the locking block (E) to disengage from the barrel, whereby the barrel can be removed without the need for further disassembly of the fire arm.

  • Patent number: 4593601
Abstract: A recoil spring system for a self-loading pistol type fire arm having a reciprocating breech block slide comprises a pair of compression springs (P) located in respective tunnels (B1, B2) in the side walls of the slide (B), each said spring abutting at its front end against the front inner wall (B9) of the slide and at its rear end against a stop (A1, A2) on the frame (A), which stop on recoil of the slide passes through a slot (B7, B8) at the rear of the slide connecting the tunnel to an external surface of the slide. The springs can be kept safely in the slide even after disassembly thereof from the fire arm.

  • Patent number: 4589327
Abstract: A safety catch for a self-loading pistol type fire arm is provided with a safety catch comprising an arbor (HH) rotatable in the fire arm frame (A) by means of manual levers (HH2 and JJ2) mounted outside the frame on either side. From a rest or off position, in which the fire arm can be fired, the arbor can be rotated upwardly to an end position in which means on the arbor engage the hammer (J) when it is in either the cocked or uncocked position, to lock it against rotation and thus prevent the pistol being fired. Additionally, when the hammer is cocked, the arbor can be rotated in the opposite direction, in which case it causes rotation of a detent member (LL) which lifts the ejector (L) to engage and hold the firing pin and to retract the end (S2) of the firing pin (S) struck by the hammer (J) within the slide (B) and thereafter to trip the sear (K) to release the hammer (J) safely from the cocked to the uncocked position.

  • Patent number: 4574509
Abstract: A self loading fire arm having manually releasable means for holding a box magazine in a well in the fire arm frame which is operable by either hand on either side of the fire arm. The releasable means comprises an aperture (T1) in the front wall of the magazine which is engaged by the nose (VV1) of a catch (VV) pivotable in a slot in the wall of the well from a central position in which the catch nose engages the aperture (T1) to either of two extreme positions in which the nose is withdrawn from the aperture, pivoting of the catch being effected from either side by means of a double plunger (UU).

  • Patent number: 4554846
Abstract: An epicyclic transmission having first and second confronting surface regions and cylindrical rollers for transmitting torque therebetween includes a two-piece retainer for axially and radially positioning the rollers relative to the confronting surface regions. A first retainer piece includes a top and bottom surface interconnected by a plurality of bars shaped and arranged into pairs for rotatably supporting the rollers so that one end face of the rollers contacts and is supported by the bottom surface. A second retainer piece confronts the top surface so as to support an opposite end face of the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4453825
Abstract: An electronic distance meter is interfacable to a controller and measures distance to a moving target by comparing the phase of a signal propagated to the target with the phase of the reflected signal. A time mark indicating when the measurement was made is corrected by an offset to compensate for an apparent distance error related to the doppler effect. The corrected time mark indicates when the target was actually at the apparent distance. An asynchronously resettable timer provides measurement-to-measurement elapsed time information so that position-in-time and velocity data may be obtained. A multi-valued annunciator indicates the integrity of the target signal path.

  • Patent number: 4390052
Abstract: A bias-belted motorcycle tire whose belt cord angle is at least two degrees less than the cord angle of the carcass plies. A sidewall stiffening structure extends from each bead and terminates in the respective sidewall a distance from the respective bead which is equal to between about 40 and about 60 percent of tire section height. A belt extends across the tread and terminates at a location which is spaced radially from the radially outermost point of the sidewall stiffening structure a distance equal to at least one-half inch to provide a flex zone. This abstract is not to be taken as limiting the invention of this application, and in order to understand the full nature and extent of the technical disclosure of this application, reference must be made to the accompanying drawings and the following detailed description.

  • Patent number: 4295933
Abstract: Producing polymer dispersions for use in papermaking with a relatively high content of a solubilized polymeric material which serves in the presence of paper filler as binder and dissolves only with difficulty, by continuously passing an aqueous suspension of the particulate binder through a treatment zone (2,3,4) in at least part of which it is subjected to shear, the rate of flow and degree of shear being such that the residence time in the zone allows optimum swelling of the binder and the resulting solution of polymeric binder is visually homogeneous. Flocculant and filler are preferably also incorporated to provide a continuous supply of preflocculated filler for a papermaking furnish. Typical materials are cold water soluble starch as binder, polyacrylamide as flocculant and chalk whiting as filler.
