  • Patent number: 12327576
Abstract: Data is written in tracks in a first sub-region of a region of a disk using Shingled Magnetic Recording (SMR). It is determined whether a predetermined data storage capacity for the region can be reached by adding a sub-region guard band and shingle writing throughout a remaining portion of the region using a lower limit of track overlap. The sub-region guard band does not store data and separates the first sub-region from a second sub-region in the region. In response to determining that the predetermined data storage capacity for the region can be reached by adding the sub-region guard band and shingle writing with the lower limit of track overlap throughout the remaining portion of the region, the sub-region guard band is added, and the second sub-region is shingle written with at least as much track overlap as the lower limit of track overlap.

  • Publication number: 20250113884
Abstract: An impact absorbing structure includes an impact absorbing material, a recipient body, and a frame. The frame is bonded to the recipient body. The recipient body and the frame together encapsulate the impact absorbing material. The frame is self-supporting. An impact absorbing structure includes an impact absorbing material with at least one perimeter edge that includes an opening or irregularity, a recipient body, and a frame that is bonded to the recipient body. The recipient body and the frame together encapsulate the impact absorbing material. The frame covers at least the one perimeter edge of the impact absorbing material. The frame provides stiffness at the one perimeter edge that is consistent with stiffness of the impact absorbing material away from the opening or irregularity.

  • Patent number: 12032063
Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to systems and methods for configuring architectures for a sensor, and more particularly for light detection and ranging (hereinafter, “LIDAR”) systems based on ASIC sensor architectures supporting autonomous navigation systems. Effective ASIC sensor architecture can enable an improved correlation between sensor data as well as configurability and responsiveness of the system to its surrounding environment and avoid any unnecessary delay within the decision-making process that may result in a failure of the autonomous driving system. It may be essential to integrated multiple functions within an electronic module and implement the functionality with one or more ASICs.

  • Patent number: 11987950
Abstract: A method and apparatus of forming two or more waving rip lines across a sloping surface, wherein the rip lines are formed at substantially right angles to the downward direction of the sloping surface and have a plurality of peaks and troughs. The troughs form catchment areas for water and the peaks separate the troughs limiting the amount of water stored in the catchment areas. Each of the rip lines can be substantially parallel with each other or offset relative to an adjacent rip line. The plurality of waving rip lines contribute to the stability of the landform, long term conservation and maintenance of the landform, and thereby encourage establishment and growth of vegetation in the remediation process.

  • Patent number: 11954027
Abstract: A multiple-actuator hard disk drive includes a first actuator associated with a first logical unit and configured to operate on a first set of disk surfaces, a second actuator associated with a second logical unit and configured to operate on a second set of disk surfaces greater than the first set, and a controller accessing a mapping of logical memory addresses to physical memory locations. The mapping maps the first logical unit to the physical memory locations of the first set of surfaces and a parasitic portion of the second set of surfaces, and maps the second logical unit to the physical memory locations of the second set of surfaces exclusive of the parasitic portion of the second set of surfaces. Thus, data transfer commands performed on the parasitic portion are executed by one actuator while credit is given to the logical unit associated with the other actuator.

  • Patent number: 11873240
Abstract: Methods and systems for reducing an average particle size of blackwater solids is disclosed. A vessel is configured to receive a blackwater stream through a one-way inlet. The one-way inlet is configured to allow the blackwater stream into the vessel and prevent backflow. The blackwater stream contains blackwater solids and water. A device in a bottom portion of the vessel is configured to receive the blackwater and comminute the blackwater solids. A recirculating pump is configured to recirculate the blackwater stream under pressure through the device until the average particle size of the blackwater solids is reduced below a size threshold, resulting in a sized blackwater stream.
