Abstract: Systems and methods for using musical data are provided. In one implementation, a method is provided that includes receiving input selecting a musical phrase including musical data. A copy of the musical phrase is created and persistently stored. An input is received selecting a destination location in a musical score. The copy of the persistently stored musical phrase is placed into the musical score at the selected location.

Abstract: A method of growing a ribbon crystal provides a crucible containing molten material and passes string through the molten material to grow the ribbon crystal. The method further directs gas flow around the ribbon crystal such that the gas flows down along the ribbon crystal toward the crucible.

Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying musical sounds are provided. In one implementation, a method includes receiving a collection of sound identifiers. Each sound identifier in the collection identifies a sound. Each sound identifier is associated with a corresponding audio representation. The collection of sound identifiers is used to construct a hierarchy of sound identifiers where each sound identifier appears only once in the hierarchy of sound identifiers. The hierarchy of sound identifiers is arranged according to a musical similarity between the sounds identified by the collection of sound identifiers. A selection of a first sound identifier is received. The first audio representation corresponding to the first sound identified by the first sound identifier is unavailable. The second sound identifier identifies a second sound that is musically similar to the first sound identified by the first sound identifier.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for MLU replication, storage, and retrieval in a RAID environment are disclosed. According to one method, a data storage extent pool representing a portion of a RAID array is provisioned. A replica vault including a second data storage extent pool and representing a portion of a RAID array is provisioned. An MLU for allocating data storage extents from the data storage extent pool is created and, in response to a data write operation, a data storage extent from the data storage extent pool is allocated and data associated with the data write operation is stored in the data storage extent. The MLU is replicated to create a second MLU by allocating a second data storage extent in the second data storage extent pool in the replica vault and copying data stored in the data storage extent to the second data storage extent.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods, systems, and computer program products for dynamic mapping of logical unit (LUN) storage extents in a redundant array of inexpensive disks (RAID) environment. According to one method, a data storage extent pool representing at least a portion of a RAID array and including at least one data storage extent is provisioned. A first mapped logic unit (MLU) for allocating data storage extents from the data storage extent pool is created. A first data storage extent is allocated, using the first MLU, in response to a data write operation.

Abstract: A point in time copy of a data set is provided using a two-phase snapshot copy operation. When a write request is received, as part of the first phase, a chunk including the target location of the write request is determined. Using a “copy on first write” technique, the data at the target location is copied to a snap data area in an allocated data area that is the size of the chunk. A first map for the data set is updated to include up to three entries representing a mapping of the segment including the target location. A second map for the snap data area is updated to include a single entry for the copy of the data from the target location. As part of the second phase, the multiple entries in the first map are coalesced into a single entry after the remaining portions of the chunk are copied to the data area in the snap data area.

The crucible is configured to produce a generally one directional flow of the material (in liquid form) from the introduction region toward the removal region. This generally one directional flow causes the removal region to have a higher concentration of impurities than the introduction region.

Abstract: An apparatus for a continuous encapsulation process is provided. The apparatus is a vibrating tubing used alone, in series, or in combination with an encapsulation apparatus, which is used alone or in series. The vibrating tubing is a flat coil, a standing spiral, or a flume. The encapsulation apparatus includes a winding having coils disposed in an aqueous gelling solution. The winding is rotatable about its longitudinal center axis. The winding has adjacently spaced coils forming a plurality of chambers. Objects to be encapsulated are added to the apparatus such that when the winding is rotated, the chambers transport a volume of objects through the length winding in the aqueous gelling solution in a predetermined time.

Abstract: The backpressure mechanism and method described here do not completely shut off the traffic when a queue is experiencing congestion. Instead of completely shutting off the traffic and waiting for the effects, a series of backpressure pulses are sent to the upstream stage for intermittently slowing the traffic between the upstream and downstream stages. These pulses of backpressure effectively slowly down the rate of the ingress traffic to the queue to a rate less than the egress rate. This allows queue utilization to slowly decrease. These pulses continue as long as the queue utilization is above a threshold called “Starving Threshold”. This technique allows much lower queue utilization, thus requiring smaller queues sizes.
