Abstract: A device for, when connected to a vacuum system, conducting aspiration fluid away from a surgical site includes a conduit having a portion adapted for insertion into the surgical site. The device also includes a flow limiter interposed between the vacuum system and the conduit and in fluid communication with the conduit. The flow limiter has at least two orifices arranged in series and a flow path interconnecting the at least two orifices. The flow path has a flow area that is greater than a flow area of each one of the at least two orifices. Aspiration fluid flows through the conduit and the flow limiter in response to a pressure drop between the surgical site and the vacuum system. • Publication number: 20050064593
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to novel molecules capable of, inter alia, modulating apoptosis in mammalian cells and to genetic sequences encoding same. More particularly, the present invention relates to a novel member of the Bcl-2 family of proteins, referred to herein as “Bmf”, and to genetic sequences encoding same and to regulatory sequences such as a promoter sequence directing expression of Bmf. Bmf comprises a BH3 domain which facilitates interaction to pro-survival Bcl-2 family members thereby triggering apoptosis. Bmf is regarded, therefore, as a BH3-only molecule. The molecules of the present invention are useful, for example, in therapy, diagnosis, antibody generation and as a screening tool for therapeutic agents capable of modulating physiological cell death or survival and/or modulating cell cycle entry.

  • Patent number: 6868369
Abstract: A tachometer used to measure a speed of an engine. The tachometer includes a pickup, a counter circuit, a conversion circuit, an automatic switching device, an indicator and a meter display. The inductive pickup may be disposed around a spark plug wire of the engine to generate a pulse signal in response to a current flowing through the spark plug wire. The pulse signals are then counted by the counter circuit and input to the conversion circuit therefrom. The conversion circuit typically includes a plurality of lookup tables, each having mapped information correlating the pulse signals to the engine speed for a particular number of engine cylinders. The automatic switching device is operative to call up alternate lookup tables, e.g. each time when the electrical system of the engine is turned on. The display may be display the number of engine cylinders called up by the automatic switching device and measured engine speed.

  • Publication number: 20050018133
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for measuring a retinal sublayer characteristic of an eye. A plurality of axial scans are performed over an area of the retina of the eye. Reflections are measured during the axial scans to determine a plurality of sets of reflection intensity values. A given set of reflection intensity values is associated with one of the plurality of axial scans. A progressive refinement boundary detection algorithm is performed using the plurality of sets of reflection intensity values to determine at least one boundary location associated with the retinal sublayer for each of the plurality of sets of reflection intensity values. The retinal sublayer characteristic is determined in response to the determined boundary locations.

  • Publication number: 20050022085
Abstract: Techniques are provided for isolating failed routing resources on a programmable circuit. Failing test patterns and the test logs are fed to a Statistical Failure Isolation (SFI) tool. The SFI tool extracts failing paths from the test patterns. A statistical analysis is performed on interconnect resources related to failing paths. The resources on the paths are then tallied to create a histogram of resources. These resources are then be fed into an Adaptive Failure Isolation (AFI) tool to auto-generate verification patterns. A tester uses the verification patterns to isolate failed interconnect resources.

  • Publication number: 20040233387
Abstract: Systems and methods provide convexity map data associated with captured surface image data of a cornea The convexity map data is determined by transforming an elevation map data set into a convexity map data set. Convexity is computed as the negative of the Laplacian of the local elevation. One or more statistical parameters can be associated with the convexity map data set and employed to derive indices. The indices can be utilized to diagnosis a corneal condition.
