  • Patent number: 9841145
Abstract: An axial piercing mechanism for a pressurized gas canister includes a housing, electric motor assembly, pushrod assembly, and lancet. The housing defines one or more radial exhaust ports and coaxial internal cavities. The electric motor assembly and pushrod assembly are disposed in the respective first and second cavities. The pushrod assembly is coupled to the electric motor assembly and is rotatably driven along the longitudinal axis thereby. The lancet is coupled to the pushrod assembly. The housing includes a second end that receives or couples to a sealed end of the pressurized gas canister proximate the lancet such that the electric motor assembly, when energized, causes the pushrod assembly and lancet to translate along the longitudinal axis, pierce a sealed end/diaphragm of the canister, and release pressurized gas through the exhaust port. A system includes the axial piercing mechanism and the pressurized gas canister.

  • Patent number: 9612006
Abstract: A table having integrated lighting includes a table top having an upper surface, a lower surface, and a side edge. At least one light-diffusing insert is mounted along at least a portion of the side edge. There is also provided at least one lighting element mounted within the table top to illuminate the light-diffusing insert. The light-diffusing insert and the lighting element are housed within a horizontally-extending recessed channel along the side edge of the table. The table also includes at least one base support mounted beneath the table top. The base support has at least one open channel extending the length of the base support through which an electrical wire extends upwardly to the table top. The electrical wire is connected through the table top to the lighting element to provide electrical power to the lighting element.

  • Publication number: 20100045221
Abstract: Electrical machine arrangements have advantages with regard to providing local electrical power and starting. Embedding such electrical machine arrangements in machinery such as gas turbine engines is advantageous in removing mechanical linkages and reducing aerodynamic drag. However, the components utilised must be able to withstand harsh environmental conditions and therefore the DC link capacitor used for smoothing of voltage fluctuations are limited to relatively low capacitance densities. Low density DC link capacitors require large sizes which render electrical machines less acceptable for embedded usage. By providing offset of electrical current in inductance elements such as stator windings and stator coils of electrical machines in dead periods of the cycle a reduction in DC link capacitor requirements is achieved reducing the size, weight and complexity of installing electrical machines in gas turbine engines.
