The wireless device has a resident network optimization application that causes the selective transmission of network status data to at least one other computer device on the wireless network, and either the data-receiving computer device or another computer device on the wireless network optimizes the wireless network based upon the received network status data.

Through use of the interaction, wireless device status data and network status data can be gathered and utilized, and if so embodied, the diagnostic tools resident on the wireless devices can be manipulated to alter wireless device operation.

Abstract: A method and device for analyzing species in a sample includes immobilized ligands in a porous matrix disposed in a microchannel. A method of analysis is provided by loading a sample to the microchannel and establishing an analyte flow through the porous matrix. The analyte is detected as the species that binds to the ligand immobilized in the porous matrix. The present method may be adapted to identify multiple species present in a sample by immobilizing different ligands in a series in a single microfluidic channel by sequentially photopolymerization of various porous matrixes, each containing different ligands.

Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for the mixing of two microfluidic channels wherein several wells are oriented diagonally across the width of a mixing channel. The device effectively mixes the confluent streams with electrokinetic flow, and to a lesser degree, with pressure driven flow. The device and method may be further adapted to split a pair of confluent streams into two or more streams of equal or non-equal concentrations of reactants. Further, under electrokinetic flow, the surfaces of said wells may be specially coated so that the differing electroosmotic mobility between the surfaces of the wells and the surfaces of the channel may increase the mixing efficiency. The device and method are applicable to the steady state mixing as well as the dynamic application of mixing a plug of reagent with a confluent stream.

Abstract: A portable phone has an outer casing with opposite upper and lower walls, one of the walls having an opening for access to the interior of the casing, and a lid removably mounted in the opening for normally closing the opening. A main circuit board is mounted in the outer casing, with a plurality of phone components mounted on the circuit board. A predetermined region of the board aligned with the opening is left exposed or empty of components, and forms a recess for receiving a battery. The battery receiving recess has contact pads, and a battery is removably engaged in the recess with battery contacts engaging the contact pads in the recess, whereby the battery can be removed and replaced via the opening after opening the lid.

Abstract: A playlist server system for supplying a playlist response to a client device which exchanges information with an information server system and which receives ads from an ad server over a communications network, including a playlist response generating device for generating a playlist response identifying a plurality of selected ads to be presented by the client device, and a first communications device for establishing a playlist response send communications link with the client device via the communications network over which the playlist response is transmitted to the client device, wherein the information server system and the playlist server are independently controlled.

Abstract: In a mobile satellite system, a mobile communication system includes a user interface system, an antenna system, a transceiver system, a logic and signaling system. The logic and signaling system provides a communication function permitting the mobile communication system to roam between the mobile satellite system and a terrestrial based communication system responsive to the user selection of a primary service and an alternate service. The mobile communication system also includes a digital terminal equipment unit initiating setup and release for a data call, and a facsimile interface unit initiating setup and release for a facsimile call. The facsimile interface unit generates a line control packet responsive to a line state transition indicating transmission of information associated with a new line state over a communication channel.

Other wireless phones (304)-(306) recover the data from the server through the same (308) or different (310) base station, through the Internet, Intranet, or Extranet, and convert the data back to digitized voice. The base stations transmit the digitized voice to other wireless telephones (306), which convert them back to voice in response to the recognition of voice frames on the data channel by the CODEC manager software. Networked computers (314) may be configured to emulate a combined base station and wireless telephone.

Abstract: A method for modifying and controlling fluid flow in channels formed in substrates. The method involves exposing a portion of a fluid flow channel to light at a fluence which modifies the surface charge of the substrate at the exposure site. The method can be used to immobilize chemical compounds or biological species in the fluid flow channels at the modified surfaces.
