  • Patent number: 6397076
Abstract: A method and apparatus for receiving dispatch messages in a broadcast radio receiver. In one embodiment, audio dispatch messages can be received, in another embodiment, data dispatch messages can be received. In either embodiment, a previously selected broadcast channel is received until a dispatch alert message is simultaneously received. The dispatch alert message includes a dispatch ID codes which is compared by the receiver with a previously stored dispatch ID code. If equality is found, the receiver switches from the previously selected broadcast channel to a dispatch broadcast channel to receive the dispatch message. Upon completion of the dispatch message, the receiver automatically switches back to the previously selected broadcast channel.

  • Patent number: 6364016
Abstract: Improved methods of treating water and hydrocarbons producing subterranean formations to reduce the water permeabilities of the formations without substantially reducing the hydrocarbons permeabilities thereof are provided. The methods basically comprise introducing into the formation a chemical which does not resist water flow and attaches to adsorption sites on surfaces within the porosity of the formation but slowly washes off the sites as another fluid flows through the treated formation. Thereafter, a water flow resisting polymer is introduced into the formation so that it flows deeply into the porosity of the formation before the previously introduced chemical washes off and attaches to the adsorption sites as the chemical washes off.

  • Patent number: 6332616
Abstract: Two playing pieces each include a body portion, a shield having at least two hinged segments attached to the body portion, a first control mechanism operable to select one of the hinged segments as a blocked segment, a projecting element attached to the body portion and having a raised position and at least two lowered positions, and a second control mechanism operable to select one of the lowered positions as an active position. The two playing pieces can be placed on a track structure at opposite respective ends for movement towards each other along respective paths of movement. In one possible outcome, the projecting element of one of the playing pieces strikes the blocked segment of the shield of the other playing piece and in another outcome the projecting element strikes an unblocked segment of the shield of the other playing piece.

  • Patent number: 6260699
Abstract: Synthetic absorbable sutures are filled with a stabilizing agent, preferably a mixture of glycerol and calcium lactate, and inserted into a retainer having a narrow convoluted passageway. The retainer is inserted into an open foil pouch with a package stabilizing element such as a paper sheet filled with stabilizing agent. The package containing the suture, retainer and package stabilizing element is sterilized, aerated, equilibrated to a relatively high moisture level, and sealed. Long lengths of suture and doubled-over and tripled-over suture may be withdrawn from the retainer with low force without damaging the suture. Bends and kinks in the suture are prevented so as to provide a synthetic absorbable suture having highly desirable out of package hand and feel. The suture an removed from the package exhibits improved tissue drag characteristics.
