    Abstract: A circuit breaker includes a housing including a primary cover and a secondary cover having a tab; separable contacts; and an operating mechanism adapted to open and close the separable contacts. The operating mechanism includes a cradle pivotally mounted within the housing, the cradle including a latch, and a latch mechanism within the housing. The latch mechanism is adapted to capture the latch of the cradle when the separable contacts are closed. The operating mechanism also includes a rotary interlock pivotally mounted within the housing and cooperating with the latch mechanism and the tab of the secondary cover to release the latch of the cradle and to trip open the separable contacts when the secondary cover is removed from the primary cover.

The second opening of the second hardened bushing is adapted to pivotally mount a second tab of the latch member. The hardened material of the first and second side plates is harder than the unhardened material of the first and second side plates.

    Abstract: A lockable fastener connects together a plurality of components of a circuit breaker and maintains electrical conductivity between the components while permitting relative movement therebetween. The lockable fastener includes a first clinch nut member and a second clinch bolt member. The clinch nut member includes a threaded cavity formed therein, a side having opening therein, and a passageway between the side at the opening and a surface proximate the threaded cavity. The clinch bolt member includes a threaded shank. At least a portion of the threaded shank is threadably receivable in the threaded cavity of the clinch nut member, in order to axially align the clinch nut and clinch bolt members. The clinch nut and clinch bolt members are adapted to be locked by deformation of the surface of the clinch nut member to prevent loosening of the members.

For instance, the seal may be used to seal thermally movable components of a turbine engine that may include, but are not limited to, leading edge shrouds, isolation rings, ring segments, and vane segments. The seal may be formed from a body having a cross-section generally orthogonal to a longitudinal axis and include a first side, a second side generally opposite to the first side, a first end, and a second end generally opposite to the first end. A compliant material may be coupled to the first or second end, or both, and may absorb thermal expansion of the two thermally movable components. The seal may reduce leakage flow paths between the seal and the thermally movable components.

    Abstract: Aspects of the invention relate to a turbine engine system and method for actively managing blade tip clearances during part load operation of the engine. Aspects of the invention relate to extracting a portion of the combustion gases from the combustor section of the engine and routing these heated gases to the blade rings or other stationary structure surrounding the turbine blades. Upon exposure to the combustion gases, which can be mixed with compressor exit air, the stationary structure will thermally expand, causing blade tip clearances to increase. Thus, concerns of blade tip rubbing are minimized. Once the engines achieves steady state operation, the flow of the combustion gases to the blade rings can be substantially restricted so that only compressor exit air is supplied to the stationary structure. Consequently, the stationary structure will contract and the blade tip clearances will decrease, thereby increasing the efficiency of the turbine.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for the monitoring and measurement of chemical and/or biological deposition in heat exchangers and other fluid processing vessels. The new and original sensing system includes at least two hollow fluid vessels conductively mounted across a constant heat transfer path. Thin film heat flux sensors are attached to a heat transfer surface of the vessels in order to measure changes in differential heat flux that occur when deposition begins to accumulate in the vessel. In this way, it is shown that differential heat flux measurements can be used to detect and measure the early onset of chemical and/or biological deposition.

    Abstract: Aspects of the invention relate to methods and assemblies for improving the efficiency of a turbine engine through active management of blade tip clearances. In some designs, a portion of compressor exit air is routed to the rotor and discs of the turbine section. Aspects of the invention relate to treating the compressor exit air in light of the operating conditions of the engine. For instance, under base load or substantially steady state operation, a portion of compressor exit air can be routed to the rotor and discs without reducing the temperature of the compressor exit air. In such case, blade tip clearances will reduce, allowing for improved engine efficiency. Under part load or substantially transient operating conditions, a portion of compressor exit air can be cooled before it is supplied to the rotor and discs. As a result, the blade tip clearances increase, minimizing concerns of blade tip rubbing. Routing of the compressor exit air for cooling and bypass can be controlled by a valve.

    Abstract: Aspects of the invention relate to a turbine engine configuration and method for overcoming a turbine blade tip clearance problem that can arise when the turbine inlet temperature is maintained at a high level during part load operation of the turbine. Aspects of the invention relate to reducing rotor cooling air to a temperature below the design temperature level by using, for example, additional heat extraction devices or by reconfiguring or resizing existing heat exchanger devices. Upon exposure to the cooled air, the discs and blades of the turbine will shrink so as to provide a clearance between the blade tips and surrounding stationary support structure. The design rotor cooling air temperature can be from about 350 degrees Fahrenheit to about 480 degrees Fahrenheit. Aspects of the present invention can be used to decrease the rotor cooling air to about 150 degrees Fahrenheit at about 70 percent load.

    Abstract: Aspects of the invention relate to a method for facilitating the reduction of carbon monoxide emissions during part load operation of a turbine engine by holding high combustor temperatures. The combustor section of the turbine engine includes a plurality of combustors, each combustor having a pilot nozzle, a plurality of main nozzles circumferentially surrounding the pilot nozzle, and a premix ring. According to one aspects of the invention, a first pair of combustors are selected. Fuel can be substantially restricted from being supplied to the main nozzles and the premix ring of the selected combustors, while fuel continues to be supplied to the pilot nozzles of the selected combustors. Additional combustors can be selected and the supply of fuel can be selectively restricted as described above. The process can continue until there is substantially zero net power out of the engine.

    Abstract: A pontoon comprising a seamless, non-woven, one-piece, inflatable vessel preferably formed by a process of rotational molding, from a resilient, semi-rigid polyolefin elastomer, preferably metalocene. The pontoon has shape memory characteristics, which make it partially self-inflating, and cause it to entrap air when partially deflated, to thereby resist complete deflation if punctured, allowing a user to more easily get to safety. Punctures in the pontoon may be easily eliminated by applying heat to the polymer material at the site of the puncture, such as with a hot knife or other metal implement, so as to fuse the polymer material together. The bottom of the pontoon is preferably thicker than the top, and the ends of the pontoon taper to a blunt point that is thicker still, to thereby resist damage from impact and to help maintain the desirable shape-memory characteristics of the pontoon.

    Abstract: A binder mechanism comprises a pair of prong plates pivotally connected by a retainer spring to toggle between a first raised position and a second lowered position. The prong plates include a plurality of ring segments affixed to the prong plates that are capable of forming loops. A cam mechanism is used to toggle the prong plates between the raised and lowered positions causing the ring segments to open or to close to form loops. The cam mechanism is preferably a slider located above the prong plates, the slider having ramps inserted through recesses between the prong plates. Preferably, the recesses are located adjacent to where the ring segments are attached to the prong plates. Cleats may hold the parts of the binder mechanism together and keep the mechanism attached to a binder assembly. Preferably, the retainer spring is in the form of a top spring covering both the slider and prong plates.
