  • Patent number: 6748630
Abstract: A ratchet-type buckle (100) is disclosed for use with a ladder strap (80), wherein the buckle includes a toothed, barrel-shaped strap engagement member (140) that is rotatably mounted between oppositely disposed sidewalls (130) that are pivotally coupled to a base (110). The engagement member is positioned to drivably engage and hold the strap. A holding pawl (160) allows forward rotation and hinders backward rotation of the engagement member. A driving pawl (180) is incorporated into a lever assembly (170), which is pivotally coupled to the sidewalls, the driving pawl positioned to engage and rotate the engagement member teeth when the lever assembly is pivoted in a forward direction. The pivotal coupling of the sidewalls to the base permit the engagement member to be lifted away from the base, to release the strap. The sidewalls are preferably biased towards the base.

  • Publication number: 20040100715
Abstract: An apparatus, program product and method of mapping defects on a data storage medium analyze one or more previously-identified defects on a storage medium to detect any growth in those defects over time, such that any detected growth of a previously-identified defect can be accommodated for through the dynamic remapping of additional surface area adjacent the defect to one or more replacement regions located elsewhere on the storage medium. As such, any buffer regions defined around pre-existing defects are effectively maintained as those defects grow over time, thus maintaining suitable protection from data loss that would otherwise result from an attempt to store information in a region that has been impinged upon as a result of the growth of an adjacent defect.

  • Publication number: 20030068654
Abstract: A method for increasing the percentage of mammalian offspring of either sex which comprises contacting a semen sample with an antibody specific for the spermatozoa determinative of one sex and separating said spermatozoa from spermatozoa determinative of the other sex, said antibody being bound to a non-porous magnetic bead support having a diameter of 0.1 to 2 microns.

  • Patent number: 5695946
Abstract: An assay method is provided to easily and quickly detect the presence of organisms capable of being cultured, such as bacteria, characterized by antibody capture of the organism of interest by use of specialized magnetic beads, incubation of the captured cells to form colonies; removal of material from the colonies with a colony lift membrane; and detection of the colony material on the membrane sheet by use of labeled antibodies, PCR or nucleic acid probes.

  • Patent number: 5658784
Abstract: The invention features an isolated nucleic acid hybridizable with the complement of the coding strand nucleic acid sequence presented in SEQ ID NO:1, and encoding a protein that is necessary for adenovirus transformation of a mammalian cell. The encoded protein, p300, cooperates with adenovirus E1A (Early-region 1A) proteins to establish the transformed state.
