  • Patent number: 9408427
Abstract: The present invention includes a snap installation adaptor designed to be united with a handheld tool so that the union can permanently affix snaps onto fabric. The snap installation adaptor includes an upper portion with a cap node; a lower portion with a socket node; an intermediate portion connecting the upper and lower portions; and means for transferring external downward force from the handheld tool through the upper portion so that the cap node is forced to meet the socket node, thus permanently affixing a snap onto a piece of fabric between the upper and lower portions.

  • Patent number: 9192912
Abstract: An augmented ceramic composite including aluminosilicate nanotubes may be added to a biocompatible polymer matrix. Aluminosilicate nanotubes have a surprisingly high biocompatibility, radio opaqueness, and suitability for storing therapeutic compounds for release over time. These surprising advantages make aluminosilicate nanotubes, such as halloysite nanotubes, a good candidate for use in various medical applications from bone and dental prosthetics to cancer treatment and prevention. Furthermore, unlike other additives, the addition of certain quantities of halloysite nanotubes increases the strength of the polymer matrix to which it is added.

  • Patent number: 9032032
Abstract: Architecture for efficiently ensuring that data is stored to the desired destination datastore such as for replication processes. A copy of data (e.g., messages) sent to a datastore for storage is stored at an alternate location until a received signal indicates that the storage and replication was successful. As soon as the feedback signal is received, the copy is removed from the alternate location, and hence, improves input/output (I/O) and storage patterns. The feedback mechanism can also be used for monitoring the status of data transport associated with log shipping, for example, and taking the appropriate actions when storage (e.g., replication) is not being performed properly.

  • Publication number: 20150120393
Abstract: Methods, systems, and techniques for determining the vertical alignment of an infrastructure corridor having a certain horizontal alignment involve using a processor to model the cost of constructing the infrastructure corridor as a function of cost variables that vary with the vertical alignment of the infrastructure corridor. The processor looks up the cost variables at vertical offsets corresponding to certain vertical alignments of the infrastructure corridor and determines the cost of constructing the length of road at elevations located between pairs of the vertical offsets by interpolating from the cost variables at the vertical offsets; the interpolation may be linear. The processor determines, subject to infrastructure corridor design constraints, the vertical alignment of the infrastructure corridor from the cost of constructing the infrastructure corridor at the vertical offsets.

  • Patent number: 8839249
Abstract: Embodiments of an event-driven process management and automation system are disclosed. Such system may be particularly appropriate for a multi-tenant environment so that a single process handling flow may be generated for a given process. Because in a multi-tenant environment many different entities may desire to customize or optimize this process handling flow for their particular usage, modifications to the process flow may be easily handled by a non-technical user to realize process modification without incurring additional development costs. Using a multi-level hierarchical inheritance model in accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a process may be standardized, with focused customization available on a macro and/or micro level.

  • Publication number: 20140060815
Abstract: A sealing device of enhanced configuration for use in downhole in a well. The device may include an element of elastomeric and unitary construction. At the same time, however, the element may include a substantially cured outer shell disposed about a substantially under-cured inner core. Thus, enhanced robustness and durability may be provided to the device in light of downhole conditions without sacrifice to sealable function of the device.

  • Patent number: 8545751
Abstract: A refractory nozzle assembly comprising a vessel operable to contain a molten metal and having at least one outlet. The assembly includes an inner assembly having an aperture extending therethrough and an outer assembly having an aperture extending therethrough. The inner and outer assemblies are arranged in the outlet of the vessel and are arranged for relative lateral movement such that inner and outer assemblies are operable to move between an open configuration, where the apertures therethrough are generally overlapping, and a closed configuration, where the apertures are not overlapping. The junction between the inner and outer assemblies is located within a periphery of the vessel.
