  • Patent number: 6586611
Abstract: A method of providing zinc to a subject in need of treatment includes administering to the subject an effective amount of a zinc-cysteine complex. The zinc-cysteine complex is preferably a zinc-monocysteine complex. The complexes of zinc-cysteine of the present invention increase the activity of antioxidant enzymes catalase and glutathione peroxidase, and the antioxidant protein metallothionein. The complexes of zinc-cysteine of the present invention protect retinal pigment epithelial cells from increasing hydrogen peroxide concentrations.

  • Patent number: 6533419
Abstract: A flash recovery timer and warning device is a hand-held electronic device using a bright flash to create a temporary glare-type vision blur to the eye to be tested and a target and timer to determine the amount of time required for the eye to recover after the flash. The device has a voice chip that, in addition to the timer display, warns that the vision recovery time is unusually prolonged and professional help should be sought. A plurality of flash recovery times are recorded and stored in the device. Other clinical applications may be useful.

  • Patent number: 6101411
Abstract: A contact lens with a conductive outer shell (one electrode of a two-electrode electrophoresis device) and a preferably soft, preferably disposable contact lens for contacting a patient's eye, assists in delivering dilation drops or other medicaments to a patient's eye. Advantageously, the lens is used with a relatively small hand-held power source. Electrophoresis can be used to help deliver dilation drops more rapidly, regardless of the delivery apparatus used for the electrophoresis.
