Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for interfacing a first digital device with a second digital device. An exemplary method includes the steps of combining one of a plurality of digital content channels and a back channel to form a composite channel, the back channel for transmitting information from the second multi-media digital device to the first multi-media digital device, converting a digital content channel and the composite channel from the first digital device into a plurality of single-ended digital content channels, transporting the plurality of single-ended digital content channels from the first digital device to the second digital device, and converting the single-ended digital content channels back into the digital content channel and the composite channel that are supplied to the second digital device. Cross-talk interference is reduced between the back channel and one of the plurality of digital content channels via a cross-talk cancellation filter.

Abstract: A voltage compensation circuit is disclosed for proving an elevated output AC voltage upon an under voltage input AC voltage condition. The voltage compensation circuit comprises an autotransformer having a first and a second autotransformer winding. A first position of a switch connects the first autotransformer winding to the input AC voltage for providing an elevated output AC voltage at the second autotransformer winding. The second position of the switch shorting the first autotransformer winding for providing a non-elevated output AC voltage.

Abstract: A method to optimize use of available storage capacity of a plurality of sequential data storage media, wherein the method provides (M) sequential data storage media each comprising a plurality of blockids, where the (i)th sequential data storage medium comprises an (i)th available storage capacity, and where (M) is greater than or equal to 2, and where (i) is greater than or equal to 1 and less than or equal to (M). The method then receives source data comprising a plurality of segments, determines a quantum of data to store, determines if the quantum of data to store is substantially equal to an (i)th available storage capacity. If the quantum of data to store is substantially equal an (i)th available storage capacity, then the method writes the source data to an (i)th sequential data storage medium.

Abstract: A high performance compact heat exchanger includes a base plate with evaporator channels for cooling a heat source adjacent to the base plate. A condenser is connected to the base plate and includes fins with channels therein for the coolant. A pump delivers the coolant to the evaporator channels of the base plate after passing through the fins of the condenser.

Abstract: Aqueous formulations suitable for intranasal administration comprise buprenorphine or a physiologically acceptable salt or ester thereof and (a) a pectin having a degree of esterification of less than 50%, (b) chitosan and a polyoxyethylene-poly-oxypropylene copolymer (poloxamer) or (c) chitosan and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose. Such formulations can induce rapid and prolonged analgesia when delivered intranasally to a patient. The buprenorphine or buprenorphine salt or ester may be delivered to the bloodstream to produce within 30 minutes a therapeutic plasma concentration of buprenorphine, Cther, of 0.2 ng/ml or greater which is maintained for a duration Tmaint of at least 2 hours.

Abstract: A method of packet retransmission in a communications system having a plurality of user devices and at least one network device involves broadcasting a multimedia broadcast multicast service transmission to the plurality of user devices. One or more of the user devices which failed to receive the complete transmission correctly send a request for retransmission to the network device and the network device retransmits requested packets of the original transmission on a different transmission channel to the original broadcast channel.

Abstract: An ergonomically maneuverable vacuum cleaner has: a vacuum cleaner head moveable across a floor and a motor to create a vacuum on the vacuum cleaner head. There is a relatively upright single stem handle for gripping and moving of the vacuum cleaner with a single hand of a user. Releasably attached to the upright single stem handle is a dual grip handle positioned relatively perpendicular to the upright stem handle. The dual grip handle has a central handle bar that lies relatively horizontal to the floor when the vacuum cleaner is in use, and the handle bar having two cushion grips, one each on ends of the handle bar. There is a connecting element between the central handle bar and the upright single stem handle.

Abstract: Systems and methods to monitor communications to identify a communications problem are disclosed. An example method to monitor communication includes mirroring a first port on a first network element communicatively coupled to a virtual circuit to a second port on a second network element communicatively coupled to the virtual circuit, mirroring a third port on a third network element coupled to the virtual circuit to the second network element, monitoring mirrored communications data at the second network element by receiving communications data on the second port that are sent to the first port from the third port or from the first port to the third port, and analyzing the monitored communications data to identify a communications problem based on a difference between communications data mirrored from the first port and communications data mirrored from the third port.

Abstract: A method of preparing a titanium-based metal matrix composite. In one form, titanium hydride can be added to substantially pure titanium, an alloying material and a source of boron such that a mixture of these materials can be compacted and sintered in a powder metallurgy process to produce a component made up of a titanium boride reinforced titanium alloy. In another form, the substantially pure titanium, alloying material and source of boron could be vigorously mixed (with or without the titanium hydride) to such an extent that oxide films that may have built up on the titanium precursor can be removed to minimize the presence of oxygen in the manufactured component.

Abstract: A low cost, multimode optical fiber switch in which a MEMS mirror is used to serially reflect input light from a plurality of input optical fibers into a single output fiber or from a single optical fiber into a plurality of output fibers. In a planned demonstration prototype the output fiber is located in the center of four input fibers. In other preferred embodiments of the present invention an array of MEMS mirrors are utilized with a large bundle of fibers containing both input and output fibers. Each MEMS mirror is adapted to reflect light from a number of input fibers one-at-a-time into a single output fiber or to reflect light from a single input fiber into a number of output fibers one-at-a-time.

Abstract: Photosensitizing dyes are often used in conjunction with a photoacid generator in photopolymerizable materials and in holographic recording media. Typical dyes for these materials are used in the region of the visible spectrum for wavelengths greater than about 450 run. The present invention discloses a number of new 1,4-alkynyl substituted napthalene photosensitizing dyes that have suitably low extinction coefficients coupled with good sensitizing properties for use in such materials at wavelengths in the visible spectrum region of about 400 nm.

The valve actuator assemblies may include a capless valve actuating arrangement, include a replaceable passage defining member that includes seal members, include a valve member that is assembled in a valve chamber from an end of the valve body that is opposite an end that a piston is assembled in, and/or include a valve member that may be rotated in a valve body without affecting the ability of the valve member to perform its sealing functions.

Abstract: An advanced processor comprises a plurality of multithreaded processor cores each having a data cache and instruction cache. A data switch interconnect is coupled to each of the processor cores and configured to pass information among the processor cores. A messaging network is coupled to each of the processor cores and a plurality of communication ports. In one aspect of an embodiment of the invention, the data switch interconnect is coupled to each of the processor cores by its respective data cache, and the messaging network is coupled to each of the processor cores by its respective message station. Advantages of the invention include the ability to provide high bandwidth communications between computer systems and memory in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Abstract: The pedicure file includes a housing having a hollow interior, the housing being configured in an ovate-like shape. Two identically configured cap members are attached together to form the housing. Outer surfaces of the housing are designed to support removable and disposable abrasive pads thereon. The pads are employed to scrape away calluses from the skin. Ridge and gap structures disposed along the periphery of the outer surfaces to allow for easy placement and removal of the pads. A channel is formed around the housing to form an ergonomic gripping surface. A plurality of replacement pads are stored in the interior of the housing.
