  • Publication number: 20120014517
Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods for controlling the blocking of telephone calls are disclosed. A person, for example, bothered by calls from a prison inmate may desire to block future call attempts from that inmate or even desire to block all calls from the confinement/correctional institution at which the inmate is housed. To reduce accidental and fraudulent call blocking, various techniques are used to verify that the party requesting the block is, in fact, the party in control of the telephone number requested to be blocked. Embodiments herein enable call blocking using systems that require little or no human interaction to process a block request, reduce or eliminate accidental blocks via a callback confirmation process, create a documentation trail via the use of a profile and PIN system used for the processing of a block, and/or reduce fraudulent blocks by parties other than those authorized to do so via CNAM (Caller ID) verification.

  • Patent number: 7916863
Abstract: A security printing method includes generating a security file having a plurality of metadata fields and an information field concatenated together in an initial sequence. A security file identification is generated from the plurality of metadata fields and the information field. The security file identification corresponds to the initial sequence and is a one-way function of the plurality of metadata fields and the information field. The method further includes selecting a custom scrambling technique based on the security file identification, and scrambling the initial sequence using the selected custom scrambling technique, thereby creating a scrambled sequence of the plurality of metadata field and the information field.

  • Patent number: 7787545
Abstract: Wavelet filters computed from a wavelet transform are used as a means of pulse shaping binary data transmitted and received over multiple parallel channels. At the transmitter the data is parsed from a serial bit stream to several parallel streams. Within each of the parallel bit streams symbols are formed. Signals are created from each symbol by up-sampling by inserting zeros between successive symbols. These signals are passed through a bank of low-pass and high-pass filters derived from a wavelet packet transform. The filters are paired: one high-pass with a low-pass. The ordering is alternated to preserve “natural” frequency ordering. These steps are repeated for this set of signals until only one signal remains. The remaining signal is transmitted in the base band of the transmission system or they are transmitted by modulating the carrier of the transmission system. At the receiver the steps are reversed to recover symbols.

  • Patent number: 7157510
Abstract: An acetal-based composition useful as a nucleating, gelling, thickening or clarifying agent is disclosed. The composition may be synthesized or provided in many different forms, including multicarbon diacetals formed from carbohydrates. Once synthesized, the compound may be employed as an additive in a plastic composition, such as (for example) a polypropylene copolymer. Co-additives may also be employed. Several aryl structures may reside upon the hydrocarbon chain backbone. One structure of such an acetal-based composition which happens to have two aryl-containing groups is shown: wherein: n is 0, 1 or 2; Ar1 and Ar2 are independently selected from substituted or unsubstituted aryl-containing groups; and R is selected from the group consisting of: alkenyls, alkyls, alkoxy, hydroxyl alkyls, and alkyl-halides.

  • Publication number: 20050286788
Abstract: A method for encoding, transmitting and receiving signals by adaptive wavelet packet trees is disclosed. In a first aspect a transmitter, accepts a binary data stream, assumed to be random. At the transmitter the data is parsed from a serial bit stream to several parallel streams. The number of bits per symbol need not remain constant; within each of the parallel bit streams symbols are formed from the bits and consist of the set {0, 1, . . . 2k?1} where k is the number of bits per symbol. The symbols are Grey coded to decrease the probability of a bit error, however other forms of pre-coding can be used. Signals are created from each symbol by, first, up sampling—by inserting zeros between successive symbols; these signals modulate low-pass and high-pass filters that are derived from a wavelet packet transform (the wavelet and scaling functions, or, equivalently the low-pass and high-pass analysis filters). The filters are paired: one high-pass with a low-pass.

  • Publication number: 20050172152
Abstract: An encoder-decoder is disclosed for embedding digital rights meta-data onto digital media, such as images, documents and sound. The encoder-decoder uses a cryptographic. key to control encoding and decoding. For example, in encoding, the cryptographic key controls a cryptographic embedding of a meta-data onto the media so that the message cannot be extracted from the media, unless one has a private key.
