  • Patent number: 7597077
Abstract: A V-type engine includes a housing, a crankshaft, a counterbalance shaft, a first camshaft, and a second camshaft. The crankshaft, the counterbalance shaft, the first camshaft, and the second camshaft are rotatably supported by the housing. The crankshaft has a crankpin. In one embodiment, an imaginary plane perpendicular to the rotational axis of the crankshaft intersects each of the crankpin and the counterbalance shaft such that the crankshaft is operatively coupled with each of the counterbalance shaft and the first camshaft on one side of the imaginary plane, and the counterbalance shaft is operatively coupled with the second camshaft on an opposite side of the imaginary plane. The V-type engine may be included in a vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20090223731
Abstract: A motorcycle is provided that includes a frame and an engine supported by the frame. The motorcycle also includes a continuously variable transmission operatively driven by the engine and a reduction gearset operatively driven by the continuously variable transmission. The motorcycle further includes a rotatable rear wheel operatively, indirectly driven by the reduction gearset and a swing-arm assembly pivotably mounted, at a forward end thereof, on the frame. The swing-arm assembly is coupled, at a rear end thereof, to the rear wheel. The swing-arm assembly includes first and second elongated and laterally spaced fork members. The reduction gearset set is positioned forward of the rear wheel and laterally between the first and second fork members.

  • Patent number: 7131511
Abstract: A motorcycle including a main frame, a rear swing frame, and a pull shock assembly operatively disposed between the main frame and the rear swing frame. The swing frame is pivotally mounted to the main frame. The main frame includes a pair of slide tracks that receive a slide member of the pull shock assembly. A link arm extends between a forward portion of the swing frame and the slide member, and translates pivotal movement of the swing frame into sliding longitudinal movement of the slide member. A damper associated with the slide member restricts sliding movement of the slide member and, thus, pivotal movement of the swing frame. The link has a forward end secured to the swing frame and a rearward end secured to the slide member.
