Abstract: Herein disclosed is a method of treating convulsions with a pharmaceutical composition containing a compound of the formula:(HO).sub.p --A--[OSO.sub.2 NR.sup.1 R.sup.2 ].sub.zwhere A is an aryl, arylalkyl, or aryloxyalkyl group and is substituted on 1 or more carbon atoms with a sulfamate group (--OSO.sub.2 NR.sup.1 R.sup.2) wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, same or different, are hydrogen or loweralkyl wherein p is 0 or 1 and is the number of untreated hydroxyl groups and z is 1 or 2 and is the number of --OS(O.sub.2)NR.sup.1 R.sup.2 groups. Aryl is selected from phenyl, substituted phenyl, pyridinyl, naphthyl, quinolinyl, and the like. Phenyl substituents are selected from hydrogen, halo, hydroxy, phenyl, phenoxy, benzoyl, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, carboxy, amino, loweralkylamino, diloweralkylamino, acetamido, cyano, nitro, loweralkoxycarboyl, aminosulfonyl, imidazolyl, triazolyl, and the like. Novel compounds not previously disclosed are also described.

Abstract: Novel 4-aryl-N-[2-(dialkylamino and heterocyclicamino)alkyl]-1-piperazinecarboxamides of the formula: ##STR1## wherein B is oxygen or sulfur; Ar is selected from ##STR2## or 2, 3 or 4-pyridyl; X is selected from hydrogen, halogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, amino, dimethylamino, nitro, trifluoromethyl, cyano, acetyl, acetylamino, aminocarbonyl, carboxy or loweralkylcarboxylic acid ester; Y is selected from hydrogen, halogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, nitro, trifluoromethyl, cyano, acetylamino, aminocarbonyl, carboxy or loweralkyl carboxylic acid ester; Z is selected from hydrogen, loweralkyl or loweralkoxy; Q is selected from ##STR3## m is 1 to 3 inclusive; n is zero or 1; p is zero to 3 inclusive; R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are loweralkyl and may be the same or different, or R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 taken together with the adjacent nitrogen atom may be form a heterocyclic residue; and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are disclosed.

Abstract: A method of inhibiting Type 1 allergic responses in a living animal body with substituted heterocyclic amines is disclosed wherein the active agents are expressed generally by the formula which includes certain known and certain known compounds: ##STR1## wherein P is zero, one or two; m is one to six inclusive; A is selected from hydrogen, hydroxy or cyano; d is zero or one; Q is --CH--, CH.sub.2 -- or ##STR2## n is zero or one and when Q is --CH-- and n is one, a double bond is formed with one of the adjacent carbons but not both at the same time, and when n and d are zero at the same time, a double bond is formed between the .alpha.

Abstract: 3-Aryl-2,1-benzisoxazole compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 are hydrogen or methyl;R.sup.3 and R.sup.4 are hydroxyl, loweralkoxy, amino or --OM wherein M is a pharmaceutically acceptable cation;X is hydrogen, halogen, loweralkyl or nitro;Y is selected from hydrogen, halogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, nitro or trifluoromethyl;n and p are zero or one with the proviso that either n or p must be oneare disclosed, having anti-inflammatory activity and novel intermediates in the preparation thereof.

Abstract: 4-[(.alpha.,.alpha.-Diaryl)-hydroxymethyl]-1-piperidinylalkylcyclic carbamate derivatives having the formula: ##STR1## wherein; R is hydrogen, loweralkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl and substituted phenyl;Ar and Ar.sup.1 are phenyl, substituted phenyl or pyridinyl;alk is a straight or branched hydrocarbon chain;R.sup.1 is loweralkyl substituted for hydrogen on a ring carbon.The compounds are useful antihistamines and in controlling allergic response.

Abstract: 1-Aryloxy-4-[(4-aryl)-1-piperazinyl]-2-butanols of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Ar is selected fro ##STR2## or 2, 3 or 4-pyridyl); X and X' are selected from the group of hydrogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl, nitro, acetylamino, phenyl or ##STR3## acetyl, cyano, aminocarbonyl, carboxy, or loweralkyl carboxylic acid ester; Y, Y', Y" are selected from the same group as X and X' except phenyl and substituted phenyl are excluded; Z and Z' are selected from hydrogen, loweralkyl or loweralkoxy and the pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof are employed in a method of inhibiting or combatting allergic response associated with anaphylactic sensitivity in animals and humans.

Abstract: 2-Amino-3-aroyl-.gamma.-oxobenzenebutanoic acids and derivatives having the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is hydrogen, halogen, or loweralkyl; Y is hydrogen, halogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxyl, nitro, or trifluoromethyl; n is 1 or 2; and R is hydrogen lower-alkyl, or a pharmaceutically acceptable cation, are disclosed having anti-inflammatory activity.

Abstract: 2-Amino-3-aroyl-.gamma.-oxobenzenebutanoic acids and derivatives having the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is hydrogen, halogen, or loweralkyl; Y is hydrogen, halogen, loweralkyl, loweralkoxy, nitro, or trifluoromethyl; n is 1 or 2; and R is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or a pharmaceutically acceptable cation, are disclosed having anti-inflammatory activity.

Abstract: An ophthalmic aspirator-irrigator system for use during cataract surgery is disclosed. The system frees both hands of the surgeon for the surgical tasks and leaves the automatic operation of the system to a single control input operated by a foot pedal. The pedal controls both the aspiration and ejection functions as well as their respective speeds. The ophthalmic aspirator-irrigator system essentially comprises a hand-held device, a control box operable by the foot pedal and a power cord connecting the device with the box. A source of fluid is connected via a tube to the device to effect the irrigation function. The control box includes a power source and a circuit coupled to the source and via the cord to the device. Preferably, the circuit includes a bridge output network controlled by a linear motion slide type potentiometer controlled by the foot pedal.

Abstract: This invention relates to novel compounds having the formula: ##STR1## wherein; R.sup.1 is fluoro, chloro, bromo, lower-alkyl or nitro,R.sup.2 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, fluoro, chloro, bromo, nitro or trifluoromethyl, andm and n are 0-2 with the proviso that when R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 are tertiary butyl or a sterically hindering lower alkyl radical, m and/or n are 1. These compounds are intermediates in the preparation of 2-aminobiphenylacetic acids, esters and metal salts thereof.

Abstract: Cis and trans-3-aryloxy-4-hydroxypyrrolidines and derivatives thereof having the formula: ##STR1## are disclosed wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, benzyloxycarbonyl and N-loweralkylcarbamoyl; R.sub.2 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenylalkyl, benzyloxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, N-loweralkylcarbamoyl, N-diloweralkylcarbamoyl and parafluorobenzoyl-lower-alkyl; Ar is phenyl, substituted phenyl, 1-naphthyl, 2-naphthyl, 1-indenyl and 2-indenyl and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition and quaternary salts thereof. The compounds have antidepressant, antihypertensive and antiarrythmic activity in animals.

Abstract: Novel 2-amino-3-(alkylthiobenzoyl)phenylacetic acids, esters and metal salts have the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen or lower alkyl, R.sup.1 is hydrogen, lower alkyl or pharmaceutically acceptable metal cation, R.sup.2 is hydrogen, halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, Am is primary amino (--NH.sub.2), methylamino or dimethylamino. The compounds have anti-inflammatory activity; have effective analgesic activity, and inhibit blood platelet aggregation.

Abstract: Cis and trans-3-aryloxy-4-hydroxypyrrolidines and derivatives thereof having the formula: ##STR1## are disclosed wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, benzyloxycarbonyl and N-loweralkylcarbamoyl; R.sub.2 is hydrogen, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenylalkyl, benzyloxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, N-loweralkylcarbamoyl, N-diloweralkylcarbamoyl and parafluorobenzoyl-lower-alkyl; Ar is phenyl, substituted phenyl, 1-naphthyl, 2-naphthyl, 1-indenyl and 2-indenyl and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition and quaternary salts thereof. The compounds have antidepressant, antihypertensive and antiarrythmic activity in animals.

Abstract: Novel 2-aminobiphenylacetic acids, esters and metal salts of the formula are disclosed: ##STR1## wherein R represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, sodium or potassium; R.sup.1 represents fluoro, chloro, bromo, lower-alkyl or amino; R.sup.2 represents lower-alkyl, lower-alkoxy, fluoro, chloro, bromo, amino or trifluoromethyl; and m and n are 0-2 with the proviso that when R.sup.1 or R.sup.2 are tertiary butyl or a sterically hindering lower alkyl radical, m and/or n are 1. The compounds are prepared by hydrolysis of 4-(5-, 6- and 7-)phenylindolin-2-ones to give the 2-amino-3-(4-, 5- and 6-)biphenylacetic acids. The free acids are converted to the esters and metal salts. The compounds have anti-inflammatory activity and inhibit blood platelet aggregation.

Abstract: Novel 2-amino-6-biphenylacetic acids, esters, and metal salts are provided of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents hydrogen or lower alkyl, R.sup.1 represents fluoro, chloro, bromo, lower-alkyl or amino; R.sup.2 represents lower-alkyl, lower-alkoxy, fluoro, chloro, bromo, amino or trifluoromethyl; n is 0-3 and m is 0-2, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof. The compounds exhibit muscle relaxant activity, and are also useful as anti-inflammatory agents.

Abstract: Novel 2-amino-3-benzoyl-phenylacetamides are provided having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents hydrogen or lower alkyl, R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 represent hydrogen, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl and phenyl substituted by lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen, nitro and trifluoromethyl, and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 when taken together with the adjacent nitrogen may form a heterocyclic residue; X represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen or trifluoromethyl; Y represents hydrogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen, trifluoromethyl, lower alkylthio, lower alkyloxythio or lower alkyldioxythio; Am is primary amino (--NH.sub.2), methylamino or dimethylamino, and n is 1 to 3 inclusive. The compounds exhibit anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, anti-blood platelet aggregation and analgetic pharmacological activities.

Abstract: Cis and trans 3-amino-4-hydroxypyrrolidines and derivatives thereof are disclosed having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, loweralkyl or phenylcarbonyl; R.sub.2 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, lowercycloalkyl, phenyl or phenylloweralkyl; R.sub.3 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, phenylloweralkyl, phenylcarbonyl, diphenylmethyl, 5-yl-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cycloheptene or naphthylcarbonyl; R.sub.4 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, phenylloweralkyl or lowercycloalkyl; phenyl is optionally substituted and acid addition salts thereof. The compounds have antidepressant activity and methods and pharmaceutical compositions for use thereof are disclosed.
