  • Patent number: 9539344
Abstract: The invention relates to creped prebiotic tissue products. The tissue products comprise prebiotics in sufficiently high amounts to have a prebiotic effect in use, without negatively affecting tissue product properties, such as tensile strength, stiffness or softness. Thus, in certain embodiments the present invention provides soft, durable creped prebiotic tissue products that are able to improve the growth of healthy bacteria such as Bifidobacterium spp. or Lactobacillus spp. without promoting growth of enteropathogenic bacteria. The tissue products provide these benefits yet have a GMT greater than about 500, a Stiffness Index less than about 20 and a TS7 value less than about 10.

  • Patent number: 9226502
Abstract: A fibrous web that includes a cationic polymer that contains a cationic monomer comprising a cationic functional group having an affinity for the negatively charged cell walls of bacteria and a hydrophobic monomer comprising a hydrophobic functional group is provided. The molar ratio of the cationic monomer to the hydrophobic monomer is greater than about 1:1. The affinity of the cationic polymer for the bacteria allows the web to capture bacteria, thereby removing them from a surface or liquid, without the use of harsh chemicals, and also inhibiting their spread to other surfaces and liquids that may contact the web.

  • Publication number: 20150329798
Abstract: Methods for adjusting the solubility of a botanical oil in water, along with the resulting modified botanical oil and related products (e.g., treatment compositions, wipes, absorbent articles, etc.) are provided. In one embodiment, the method includes reacting the botanical oil to form a reactive product (e.g., having a hydroxyl group); and attaching a hydrophilic end group (e.g., a carboxylic acid, a carboxylic acid salt, a sugar, etc.) on the reactive product to form a modified botanical oil. The modified botanical oil generally, in most embodiments, has a greater solubility in water than the botanical oil (e.g., a solubility in water of about 10 grams per 100 grams of water or greater, such as completely soluble in water). The botanical oil includes, in one particular embodiment, an essential oil, such as those essential oil that include at least one terpene compound.

  • Publication number: 20150110893
Abstract: Formulations and wipes for imparting a sporicide to a surface are disclosed herein. To achieve the sporicidal efficacy of the product, a synergistic amount of an amine oxide surfactant and a mixture of oxidants is incorporated into the formulation. The operative sporicidal formulation contains a solvent, an amine oxide surfactant, a water soluble oxidant and a water insoluble oxidant. Typically, the formulation can contain about 0.05 to about 3.7 percent (by weight of the formulation) of an amine oxide surfactant, about 0.5 to about 4 percent (by weight of the formulation) of a water soluble oxidant, and about 0.1 to about 6 percent (by weight of the formulation) of a water insoluble oxidant.

  • Publication number: 20150064227
Abstract: Formulations and wipes for imparting a sporicide to a surface are disclosed herein. Unexpectedly, a set of naturally derived ingredients have been found to combat and treat spore-based bacteria without the use of harsh chemicals. To achieve the sporicidal efficacy of the product, botanical extracts and/or botanical-derived ingredients have been incorporated into a sporicidal formulation. Example botanical extracts that demonstrated sporicidal activity include: Garcinia morella, Setaria italica, Salvia miltiorrhiza, and Psoralea corylifolia. An example botanical-derived ingredient that demonstrated sporicidal activity included gambogic acid. Unexpectedly, use of these botanicals and/or botanical-derived ingredients on skin provided a sporicidal benefit. Other botanicals and/or botanical extracts were not found to have sporicidal efficacy.

  • Patent number: 8551517
Abstract: The present disclosure comprises a polymeric substrate that provides multiple releases of active agents. A substrate for multiple phase delivery of active agents is provided having a first polymer matrix layer having a first active agent disposed therein, a second polymer matrix layer having a second active agent disposed therein, and a coacervate layer disposed between the first polymer matrix layer and the second polymer matrix layer. Selected first and second active agents are included in the first and second polymer matrices such that as the first and second polymer matrices dissolve, the active agents are released. Multiple phase active agent release is achieved by constructing multiple layers of a polymer matrix containing an active agents formed with polymers having different solubility characteristics or with active agents at different concentration levels.

  • Patent number: 8318654
Abstract: A cleansing composition is described. The cleansing composition generally contains an antimicrobial agent, a heating agent, and a thermochromic agent. During use, the heating agent heats the composition so that the antimicrobial agent becomes more effective. The thermochromic agent, on the other hand, changes the color of the composition as it is heated in order to indicate to a user that the composition is at a desired temperature. In an alternative embodiment, instead of containing a heating agent, a heating source can be used to heat the composition. The heating source can be, for instance, an electrical resistance heater.
