  • Patent number: 6754975
Abstract: An apparatus for attenuating physical damage to a substrate, along with an attendant method, comprises as a first component a base plate having defined therein a location for receiving a substrate cassette. The apparatus also comprises a substrate retainer movably attached to the base plate such that when the substrate cassette having a substrate contained therein is positioned on the base plate at the location for receiving the substrate cassette, and the substrate is subjected to a mechanical force, the substrate retainer moves such as to retain the substrate within the substrate cassette with a retaining force. Both the apparatus and the method are particularly applicable for attenuating damage to a substrate when spin-drying the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6590039
Abstract: Curable silylated copolymers based on olefin copolymers comprising at least one alpha-olefin and a vinyl aromatic monomer (alkyl styrene) are prepared by reacting the olefin copolymer with an olefinically unsaturated hydrolyzable silane in the presence of a free radical generating agent. The silylated copolymers are readily curable by contact with water (moisture) and a silanol condensation catalyst and are particularly useful as the polymeric component in sealant, caulking, adhesive and coating formulations.

  • Publication number: 20030078451
Abstract: A catalytic solution system for manufacturing terephthalic acid is disclosed and its method. The system uses a Co—Mn—Br acetate solution (CMB) that is applied in an oxidation reaction, when the weight ratio of each component is (Co %×2.7)+(Mn %×2.9 %)>Br %. CoBr2 and MnBr2 are introduced as a source of Br for the CMB solution. Compensation for any shortage of Co and Mn, after such a supplement, can be made from cobalt acetate and manganese acetate without using highly corrosive HBr. The present invention provides a method of preparing a catalyst for manufacturing terephthalic, wherein, in the stirring action of para-xylene with a gas containing oxygen, the above catalytic solution system is used.

  • Patent number: 6448322
Abstract: Halogenated isobutylene-p-methylstyrene polymers are stabilized against discoloration with a weak base such as 100 to 500 ppm sodium bicarbonate. The additive is added to the rubbery polymers after dewatering in the finishing step of their manufacture. The curability of the stabilized rubbers is not adversely affected by the sodium bicarbonate additive.

  • Patent number: 6380316
Abstract: A copolymer of isobutylene with 0.5 to 15 mole percent of a conjugated diene (i.e., a butyl rubber) is reacted with a silane having both an alkenyl group as well as at least two silicon-bonded hydrolyzable group, the reaction taking place in the presence of a free-radical generator, to provide a modified copolymer having reactive silyl groups grafted thereto. The modified copolymer exhibits a reduced molecular weight relative to the starting copolymer and may be used to formulate moisture-curable sealants, caulks, adhesive and coatings.

  • Patent number: 6158469
Abstract: A spout assembly includes an inner tube adapted to be in fluid communication and in watertight connection with a faucet body, and an outer tube telescopically fitted on the inner tube. An outer circumferential wall of the inner tube has a plurality of annular retaining grooves disposed therein and spaced apart from and aligned with one another for receiving annular elastomeric members. Each elastomeric member extends beyond the outer circumferential wall to form an annular bump portion. The outer tube is slidably fitted on the outer circumferential wall, and has an inner peripheral wall with an annular friction member to surround and in slidable contact with the outer circumferential wall.

  • Patent number: 5670582
Abstract: A process for halogenating a copolymer of a C.sub.4 -C.sub.7 isomonoolefin, eg. isobutylene, and a para-alkylsyrene, e.g., para-methylstyrne, is disclosed. Increased halogenation efficiency is achieved by conducting the reaction under free radical halogenation conditions and in the presence of an oxidizing agent, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, which oxidizes hydrogen halide generated in-situ in the reaction back to free halogen. The oxidizing agent is preferably not added to the reaction medium until after first stage halogenation is substantially completed.
