  • Publication number: 20130288571
Abstract: During polishing of a substrate at a first platen and prior to a first time, a first sequence of values is obtained for a first zone of the first substrate and a second sequence of values is obtained for a different second zone of the substrate with an in-situ monitoring system. A first function is fit to a portion of the first sequence of values obtained prior to the first time, and a second function is fit to a portion of the second sequence of values obtained prior to the second time. At least one polishing parameter is adjusted based on the first fitted function and the second fitted function so as to reduce an expected difference between the zones. A second substrate is polished on the first platen using an adjusted polishing parameter calculated based on the first fitted function and the second fitted function.

  • Patent number: 8570028
Abstract: A transducer has a magnetic field concentrating member a first coil to couple with a first portion of the magnetic field concentrating member positioned adjacent the first coil and a second coil to couple with a second portion of the magnetic field concentrating member positioned adjacent the second coil, the second portion being spaced along the magnetic field concentrating member from the first portion. The transducer comprises a resonator having a coil wound around a portion of said magnetic field concentrating member which is located between said first and second portions. The transducer is arranged so that the electromagnetic coupling between the resonator and at least one of the first and second coils varies as a function of the relative position between the elongate field concentrating member and that coil. In this way, separate processing electronics can process the signals obtained from the transducer to determine the desired position information.

  • Patent number: 8567425
Abstract: The specification generally discloses systems and methods for mixing and delivering fluids in microfluidic systems. The fluids can contain, in some embodiments reagents that can participate in one or more chemical or biological reactions. Some embodiments relate to systems and methods employing one or more vent valves to controllably flow and/or mix portions of fluid within the microfluidic system. Advantageously, fluid control such as a sequence of fluid flow and/or a change in flow rate, can be achieved by opening and closing one or more vent valves and by applying a single source of fluid flow (e.g., a vacuum) operated at a substantially constant pressure. This can simplify the operation and use of the device by an intended user.

  • Patent number: 8572498
Abstract: A system and method for enabling spectators to participate in a sporting event in a way that may materially affect the course, and outcome, of the event. The players, or teams, participating in the sporting event agree to have certain decisions made by spectators who are supporters of the player or team. The decisions may range from the choice of the starting line up to actually calling plays during the game. The game influencing decisions are made by pre-registered spectators who vote by making a selection from a menu of possible choices related to a player's participation in the live sporting event. The spectators may be remote to the game and watching it on a television and voting using their remote control to make menu selections. Or the spectators may be in the stands watching the game, getting and responding to menus via their cell phones.

  • Patent number: 8568102
Abstract: A fan blade anti-fretting insert is described whereby to reduce wear between the root portion of a fan blade and the root slot of the rotor fan hub of a turbo fan engine to which the fan blade are secured. The anti-fretting insert can be formed of a composite spring material having a memory and is dimensioned and shaped to be fitted between the fan blade platform and the outer surface portion of the rotor fan hub between adjacent fan blades, whereby to apply a pushing force against the platform and consequently to the fan blades secure thereto thereby applying a resulting pulling force on the root portion of the fan blades to prevent rocking of the root portion in their root slots formed in the rotor fan hub.

  • Patent number: 8571635
Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling an imaging procedure are provided. A medical device is introduced within a patient, and a position (e.g., location and/or orientation) of the medical device is detected within the patient relative to a reference position (e.g., a previously detected position of the medical device or a position within a desired path). Imaging of the patient is automatically activated based on the detected relative position, such that the patient is imaged only during relevant times. In one method, instability/stability of the medical device is detected, in which case, the imaging is automatically activated when the medical device is unstable, and deactivated when the medical device is stable. For example, if tissue is to be ablated with the medical device, medical personnel can be made aware of inadvertent movement of the medical device via the image, and can correct any displacement of the medical device from the ablation site.

  • Patent number: 8572052
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for, and method of, calculating parameters used to determine whether records and entity representations should be linked. Such parameters may be set as negative to account for fields that do not match. The system and method apply iterative techniques such that parameters from each linking iteration are used in the next linking iteration. The system and method need no human interaction in order to calibrate and utilize record matching formulas used for the linking decisions.
