  • Publication number: 20130218065
Abstract: An improved shunt valve for the control of hydrocephalus provides for physiological atmospherically-referenced siphon control that is not adversely affected by overlying tissue. The valve includes one or more porous outer anti-fouling membranes to protect the flow control membranes from external mechanical tissue pressure, while permitting free movement of the flow control moveable membranes and permitting positive inlet pressure to regulate flow through the improved fluid shunt valve of the invention. The porous membranes are configured to prevent tissue ingrowth into the membranes pores while allowing adequate fluid flow across so as not to inhibit movement of the movable membrane.

  • Publication number: 20130214577
Abstract: A portable, compact folding furniture piece (10) constructed as a seat or table is configured for convenient storage. The folding furniture piece comprises an object support assembly (24) that is configured for operative connection to a mounting structure (12) and includes a spring mechanism (40, 42) securing together as a flexible unit a support mount (36), an articulated vertebral column (26), and a support base (38). The spring mechanism exhibits flexibility properties such that the object support assembly assumes at rest an unfolded state and, in response to an externally applied bending force, assumes a folded state. In the unfolded state, the vertebral column is substantially straight to provide a closed support surface (44). In the folded state, the vertebral column is curved to provide a raised, open support surface on which an object can rest.

  • Publication number: 20130216387
Abstract: A system and method for securing a blade within a disk so as to eliminate the need for permanently deforming materials associated with the blade disk is disclosed. A recess is formed generally within each slot used to secure a blade within the disk. A retaining insert is positioned within the recess and a wedge insert is positioned within a slot of the retaining insert, such that a pressure is applied to the retaining insert thereby deflecting the retaining insert into a pre-set radial position to prevent axial movement of the blade within the slot of the disk.

  • Publication number: 20130218329
Abstract: A critical access override list may be generated dynamically based on patient profile information for a single patient or a group of patients. A single patient or group of patients is initially identified. Patient profile information for the patient or group of patients is accessed. The patient profile information is analyzed, and medications are selected for critical access override. The selected medications are added to a critical access override list available to a medication dispensing apparatus to provide quicker access to the medications for emergency situation purposes via critical access override dispensing in which fewer steps are performed than normal medication dispensing events.

  • Publication number: 20130214055
Abstract: In a system and process for ultrasonically treating a liquid and delivering the liquid as a spray of liquid droplets, liquid is directed to flow along a flow path over a first ultrasonic waveguide, with the first ultrasonic waveguide having at least one agitating member extending outward therefrom and into the flow path. The first ultrasonic waveguide and agitating member(s) are excited to agitate the liquid as the liquid flows along the flow path. The liquid is further directed to flow along the flow path over a second waveguide, with the second waveguide having a terminal end adjacent an exit of the flow path. The second ultrasonic waveguide is ultrasonically excited at least at its terminal end to ultrasonically energize the liquid just prior to the liquid exiting the flow path such that the liquid exits the flow path as a spray of liquid droplets.

  • Publication number: 20130219397
Abstract: Embodiments of a mobile state object for storing and transporting job metadata on a cluster computing system may use a database as an envelope for the metadata. A state object may include a database that stores the job metadata and wrapper methods. A small database engine may be employed. Since the entire database exists within a single file, complex, extensible applications may be created on the same base state object, and the state object can be sent across the network with the state intact, along with history of the object. An SQLite technology database engine, or alternatively other single file relational database engine technologies, may be used as the database engine. To support the database engine, compute nodes on the cluster may be configured with a runtime library for the database engine via which applications or other entities may access the state file database.

The retainer may include a base portion having an opening and an outer perimeter lying in a first plane, the opening having a plurality of elongated sections each extending toward the outer perimeter so as to define in the base portion one or more arms. Each of the aims may have a head section having at least one groove, the head sections being located in a second plane which is parallel to and spaced apart from the first plane. The elongated sections may be symmetrically arranged about an axis. The grooves may be arranged to define at least a portion of a helix. The outer perimeter of the retainer may be circular.

  • Publication number: 20130218581
Abstract: A method of stratifying a set of disease-exhibiting patients prior to clinical trial of a target therapy begins by using a molecular footprint derived from a knowledgebase and other patient data to identify genes that are differentially expressed in a direction consistent with increase in the target activity. Therapeutic target “signaling strength” in individual patients of the set is then assessed using the genes identified and a strength algorithm. Based on their therapeutic target signaling strength, the set of disease-exhibiting patients are then stratified along a continuum. One or more gene expressions or other biomarkers may be specified for use in categorizing other disease-exhibiting patient populations. Alternative therapeutic targets are analyzed with respect to the likely non-responders, as evidenced by their differential signaling strength.

  • Publication number: 20130216037
Abstract: The present disclosure describes various ways of monitoring the needs of a contact center in real-time and pushing training to a number of agents to address those needs. In determining to push training to agents, the short-term efficiency of the agent is balanced with the long-term efficiency of the contact center. When agents receive and then complete training events designed to address the monitored contact center needs the attributes associated with the agents are updated to allow them to handle the contacts requiring training.

  • Publication number: 20130218446
Abstract: Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products are provided for determining carbon emissions of one or more vehicles. For instance, in one example embodiment, an apparatus may calculate miles traveled by the vehicles along a predefined route and may calculate a fuel usage of the vehicles for traveling along the route to obtain one or more fuel values. The apparatus may also analyze data indicating the miles traveled and the fuel values to determine fuel efficiency values corresponding to the vehicles traveling the route. The apparatus may also determine an estimate of an amount of carbon emissions for each of the vehicles based in part on applying at least one carbon emission value to respective fuel values associated with corresponding determined fuel efficiency values.

  • Publication number: 20130215719
Abstract: A 360-degree sonar imaging system and method are provided. The system includes a sonar transducer assembly pod with tilted mechanically scanning sonar (MSS) transducers that is deployed into the water below the bottom of the boat. The system provides photo-like imaging of an area surrounding a boat which does not require the boat to be in motion. The pod is deployed by a variety of manual, (trolling motor, transom) or powered mechanical (bow, transom, or fairing block) deployment mechanisms to allow for deployment and retraction of the sonar transducer assembly. In particular embodiments, the MSS system communicates with a side-scan-sonar-imaging-equipped control head unit to display the images generated therefrom. Various speeds and sector scans are provided, as well as a locked side-scan sonar mode. Waypoint navigation and split screen views are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20130214457
Abstract: A method of electrospinning fibres is disclosed. The fibres have an inner core surrounded by a porous outer shell. The method comprises co-electrospinning first and second liquids as core and shell respectively, the second liquid surrounding the first liquid in a jet issuing from a Taylor cone, wherein the first and second liquids are miscible or semi-miscible with each other, such that pore generation is driven in the shell of the fibre. The liquids may be solutions or melts. The electrical conductivity, viscosity, miscibility and other parameters of the liquids determine the structure of the produced fibres. As well as producing fibres having a porous shell there are described methods of co-electrospraying porous beads as well as core-shell vesicles having a porous shell. The methods may be used to produce hydrogen storage fibres, vesicles and beads. The methods may also be used for producing controlled drug-delivery fibres, vesicles and beads.
