  • Patent number: 8693081
Abstract: A device and method of making and using the same. The device includes first and second substrates that are spaced to define a fluid space. Polar and non-polar fluids occupy the fluid space. A first electrode, with a dielectric layer, is positioned on the first substrate and electrically coupled to at least one voltage source, which is configured to supply an electrical bias to the first electrode. The fluid space includes at least one fluid splitting structure that is configured to facilitate the movement of the non-polar fluid into a portion of the polar fluid. Fluid splitting structure assisted movement of the non-polar fluid splits the polar fluid.

  • Patent number: 8200792
Abstract: Method, system, and computer program product example embodiments of the invention are disclosed to provide multi-network secure video teleconferencing (VTC) for VTC endpoints. The embodiments of the invention provide distributed components to perform the necessary operations, rather than co-locating the components in the VTC endpoint. Some system components are located with the VTC endpoint, other components are placed in a network operations center (NOC) and still other components are distributed on the various networks.

  • Patent number: 8197115
Abstract: Light sources in a luminaire attach to the luminaire by one or more tabs. Up to three axis of rotation are possible. Bendable tabs enable a first axis of rotation of the light source. Light sources are rotatable about a mounting point to the tab providing a second axis of rotation. Some tabs are twistable about a third axis of rotation. Some tabs also conduct heat away from the light source. Tabs can also be formed in a baffle plate for new luminaires or for the retrofit of existing luminaires. Multiple types of light sources can be combined to provide luminaires with custom light patterns and intensities.

  • Patent number: 8192060
Abstract: An aircraft navigation light comprises a base and circuit board in thermal contact with the base. White and colored LEDs mount on the circuit board. A reflector-shade placed adjacent the LEDs reflects light from the LEDs in desired directions and shades other directions from view of selected LEDs. A light transmissive cover sealed to the base, encloses the circuit board, LEDs and reflector-shade. Temperature responsive circuitry on the circuit board regulates the current through the LEDs and reduces the LED current under high temperature conditions.

  • Publication number: 20110313874
Abstract: An approach is provided for managing location-based transactions. A posting application determines to associate transaction information with a geographic location, the transaction information relating to one or more users. The posting application determines location information associated with respective devices of the one or more users. The posting application determines to transmit a notification related to the one or more transactions to the respective devices based, at least in part, on the location information.

  • Patent number: 8047626
Abstract: Estimating the cost of ink in print jobs. The cost of ink in a print job is estimated based on printed area. After determining an ink coverage value for the print jobs and determining a cost of the ink, an ink cost factor is generated over time from the cost of the ink and from the total area ink coverage. The ink cost factor is used to estimate the cost of a print job based on area.
