Abstract: A multi-component composite coating composition comprising an aqueous-based film-forming composition serving as a color coat or a basecoat and a polyepoxide-polyacid clearcoat is disclosed. The polyacid is made from ring opening a polybasic anhydride with a polyester polyol formed from reacting a polyol with a polycarboxylic acid having at least 20 contiguous carbon atoms between the carboxylic acid groups.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved multi-layer composite of two or more polymeric layers at least one of which is formed from a thermosetting composition. The composite includes at least a first polymeric layer formed on a substrate and a second polymeric layer over the first polymeric layer, wherein in the absence of a boron-containing compound, the first and second polymeric layers have poor interlayer adhesion. The improvement resides in the inclusion of at least one boron-containing compound in one or both of the first and second polymeric layers in an amount sufficient to improve the interlayer adhesion between the first and second polymeric layers. Also provided is an improved curable coating composition used to form a multi-layer composite coating of two or more cured coating layers, at least one of which is formed from the thermosetting composition. Related methods and coated substrates are also provided.

Abstract: A ladder includes a first ladder section; a second ladder section removably attachable to the first ladder section by means of a hinge; and an adjustable hinge mechanism and a non-adjustable static hinge mechanism, both hinge mechanisms being selectively attachable to the ladder sections for affixing first and second ladder sections together at an angle in selectably varying configurations, the adjustable hinge mechanism being angularly adjustable, the static hinge mechanism presenting a fixed angle. A method of forming such ladder is further included.

Abstract: A process for forming a multilayer composite coating on a substrate is provided. The process includes forming an electrodeposition coating layer on the substrate by electrodeposition of a curable electrodepositable coating composition over at least a portion of the substrate. Optionally, the coated substrate is heated to a temperature and for a time sufficient to cure the electrodeposition coating layer. A basecoating layer is formed on the electrodeposition coating layer by depositing an aqueous curable basecoating composition directly onto at least a portion of the electrodeposition coating layer. Optionally, the basecoating layer is dehydrated. A top coating layer is formed on the basecoating layer by depositing a curable top coating composition which is substantially pigment-free directly onto at least a portion of the basecoating layer. The top coating layer, the basecoating layer, and, optionally, the electrodeposition coating layer are cured simultaneously.

Abstract: A clear coating composition for use over a colored basecoat having improved scratch resistance is disclosed. The coating composition comprises a film-forming polymer and a curing agent. The improvement is due to the incorporation in the clear coating composition of an adjuvant resin having functional groups reactive with the curing agent and positioned between the functional groups a moiety having a hydrocarbon chain of at least 10 contiguous carbon atoms.

Abstract: A ladder having a first ladder section, a second ladder section, an adjustable hinge mechanism, an engagement indicator and a static hinge mechanism. The adjustable hinge mechanism is mounted with respect to the first ladder and the second ladder so that the adjustable hinge mechanism is moveable between an engaged position and a disengaged position. The static hinge mechanism enables the first and second ladder sections to be maintained in a stationary position with respect to each other.

Abstract: An articulated cart includes a chassis, a bed pivotably coupled to the chassis, a set of front wheels operably coupled to the chassis, and a set of rear wheels operably coupled to the bed. A method of manufacturing an articulated cart and of dumping an articulated cart are further included.

Abstract: A collapsible utility trailer having a trailer bed, a trailer frame, a front pair of wheels and a rear pair of wheels. The trailer bed has at least two bed sections and each of the bed sections has a length and a width. The trailer frame has a plurality of frame sections and each of the trailer frame sections have a length and a width that are less than the length and the width of the bed sections, respectively. The trailer bed sections are attached to the trailer frame. The front and rear pairs of wheels rotatably attached to the trailer frame so that the front and rear wheels are oriented substantially below the trailer bed.

Abstract: A step ladder, includes a first ladder frame and a second ladder frame operably pivotably coupled to the first frame intermediate the second ladder frame, the second ladder frame being formed of a unitary loop defining a step portion and a handle section, the step portion and a handle section being coupled a first bend and a second generally reverse bend. A method of forming a step ladder is further included.

Abstract: A trailer includes a convertible handle having a handle portion, the handle portion pivotally attached to a tongue portion, the handle portion having a first gripping portion end and a second clevis end and an intermediate pivot, the handle portion being pivotably shiftable about the pivot between a first disposition presenting the gripping portion end proximate an end of the tongue portion and a second disposition presenting the clevis end proximate the end of the tongue portion. A method of operating a trailer is further included.

Abstract: Compositions are provided which contain (a) one or more polysiloxanes comprising at least one reactive functional group; a plurality of particles; and optionally, one or more curing agents comprising at least one functional group that is reactive with any reactive functional group of polysiloxane (a). Additionally, a process for applying the multi-component composite coatings described above to a substrate and coated substrates are provided. A process for preparing the coating compositions also is provided. The multi-component composite coating compositions of the invention provide highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings capable of retaining scratch resistance after weathering.

Abstract: Coating compositions are provided which are formed from components comprising (a) at least one polysiloxane comprising at least one reactive functional group; (b) at least one reactant comprising at least one functional group that is reactive with at least one functional group selected from the at least one reactive functional group of the at least one polysiloxane and at least one functional group of at least one reactant; and (c) a plurality of particles, wherein each component is different, and wherein the at least one reactive functional group of the at least one polysiloxane and the at least one functional group of the at least one reactant are substantially nonreactive with the particles. A multi-component composite coating composition formed from a basecoat and a topcoat deposited from the curable coating composition also is provided.
