  • Publication number: 20120141599
Abstract: Medical implants such as bone graft substitutes that include one or more cations are delivered in a local environment to promote osteogenesis. Zeolite loaded with a metal cation in combination with an implant such as a bone graft substitute can be used as an implant in the body to regulate protein transcription and translation. Also disclosed are methods of promoting osteogenesis in a patient in need thereof, methods for modulating bone formation and mineralization by implanting in a patient a medical implant comprising ion-exchangeable cations, and methods of regulating BMP gene expression in bone cells in a patient by controlling the delivery of certain cations through ion-exchange via a zeolite incorporated in a bone substitute implanted in a patient so that BMP gene expression can be upregulated or downregulated appropriately.

  • Patent number: 7019898
Abstract: A three-dimensional surface shape is produced from input numerical data. The shape of an elastic surface is determined by the positions of a first matrix of memory rods. The position of each of the memory rods is determined by a flexible sheet which is contoured by a second matrix of control rods and is computer-controlled. After control rods transfer the contour data to the memory rods, the control rods are reset to receive new contour data. Both the memory rod and control rod are fitted with two pneumatically controlled locking mechanisms, one for the X-coordinate and one for the Y-coordinate. When both locks on a particular rod are released the rod is free to move to a new position determined by an elevator. Once all of the rods have been adjusted, they are locked in position and the surface has been configured.

  • Patent number: 6220509
Abstract: A parcel trace system for tracing parcels handled by a service provider for a plurality of clients. The system includes relay (30) adapted to communicate with the clients across the Internet and with a server database. The server database stores a plurality of parcel objects, each parcel object including a parcel identifier attribute and a parcel location attribute. The server database further includes a URL attribute for each client. A client database (80) includes a plurality of parcel objects, each object corresponding to a parcel being handled for the client and including a parcel identifier and a parcel location attribute. A client database controller (70) communicates with the relay, and across a second network, possibly the Internet with the client.
