  • Patent number: 4869283
Abstract: A device for trapping fuel vapors during the refuelling of a fuel tank having a vapor control valve and which during refuelling, is moved into an open position provided outside the tank filler pipe safety valve which closes under the influence of gravity due to certain inclined positions of the fuel tank is connected upstream of the control valve, so that no fuel can escape through the vapor vent line in the case of a crash, even if the control valve no longer closes.

  • Patent number: 4852758
Abstract: A plastic fuel tank comprises a large main tank (1) and a small collecting tank connected to the main tank (1) by a flow-through opening (7). The collecting tank (3) is completely pulled into the underside (11) of the main tank (1), and includes vaulted lateral walls (31) which are symmetrical in all directions and expand into a bottom part (32) with an enlarged surface. The collecting tank (3) is partly surrounded by a connecting channel (8) opening from the main tank (1). The connecting channel (8) communicates with the collecting tank (3) via an admission bore (10). A nozzle (12) from the fuel return line (6) opens into the connecting channel (8) at a point opposite admission bore (10) to help propel fuel from the connecting channel (8) into the collecting tank (3).

  • Patent number: 4842006
Abstract: A dashpot for fuel tanks is designed such that gas bubbles produced in the latter can no longer cause troublesome noises within the fuel tank. This is achieved by means of a gas separation space which is separated from the dashpot intake chamber, into which a fuel return line opens and to the upper wall of which a degassing line discharging above the maxiumum fuel level in the fuel tank is connected.

  • Patent number: 4799509
Abstract: A vent arrangement for fuel tanks of motor vehicles which includes an expansion tank, with which is connected an expansion line extending horizontally in the vehicle transverse direction which includes two line sections extending in mutually opposite directions, of which one terminates in the atmosphere and prevents an outflow of fuel in the turned-over head position of the fuel tank.

  • Patent number: 4697612
Abstract: A valve arrangement for ventilating and venting fuel tanks for motor vehicles which includes a vacuum valve, an excess pressure valve as well as a safety valve that interrupts the connection of the interior of the tank with the atmosphere beginning with a predetermined position of the valve arrangement deviating from the installed position. The safety valve includes a mass member displaceably arranged in the housing of the valve arrangement whose weight force is directed opposite the closing force of the excess pressure valve in the normal position of the valve arrangement and which beginning with a predetermined and subsequently continuing housing displacement acts increasingly on the valve closure member.

  • Patent number: 4518091
Abstract: A fuel tank, especially for motor vehicles, includes two shaped shells which include a shell bottom, shell walls and a continuous shell rim, the shell rims of the shaped shells being adapted to be welded together to thereby form a composite fuel tank structure. At least one of the bottoms of one of the shaped shells which forms one of the side walls of the composite fuel tank structure is provided with reinforcing ribs and an outwardly protruding bulge. Additionally, the bottom of the composite tank structure formed by a wall of one of the shaped shells includes a bulge. The bulges form flexurally soft deformation zone extending generally at right angles to the reinforcing ribs and generally parallel to a portion of the shell rim which extends generally parallel to the bottom of the composite tank for absorbing stresses.

  • Patent number: 4482075
Abstract: A fuel tank, preferably made of plastic material, to the filler neck of which an attachment base for a cap is so secured that dimensional tolerances as also dimensional changes caused by differing coefficients of temperature can be compensated by an elastic seal which is axially clamped therebetween; the attachment base is thereby axially supported against an abutment surface of the filler neck by means of an annular shoulder by way of an interposed elastic sealing means.

  • Patent number: 4450880
Abstract: A filler pipe for a fuel tank, especially for motor vehicles, with a vent pipe running along an upper wall part of the filler pipe. The vent pipe terminates at a distance from an inlet opening or mouth of the filler pipe. A sloping baffle as well as a fuel nozzle support are arranged between the end of the vent pipe and the inlet opening of the filler pipe. The filler pipe with the vent pipe, sloping baffle, and nozzle support are formed in one piece of a synthetic resinous material, with the vent pipe being formed out of an upper side of the filler pipe and the baffle being formed by a drawn-in wall part of the filler pipe.

  • Patent number: 4423746
Abstract: A device for venting fuel tanks, especially of automotive vehicles, of the type having a volume equalizing vessel arranged in an upper zone of the interior of the fuel tank that communicates with the atmosphere is provided with inertial operated blocking members for sealing orifices into the equalizing vessel that are disposed at an upstream side of the orifices into the equalizing vessel relative to the interior of the tank. Additional venting conduits may be provided that are preferably inclined height wise and may either be mounted interiorly of the equalizing vessel so as to extend outwardly through an end wall thereof into close proximity with an end wall of the fuel tank or may be externally formed as a unitary formation of the equalizing vessel.

  • Patent number: 4416303
Abstract: A plastic fuel tank for motor vehicles, the fuel tank being formed in one piece with a surge tank disposed exteriorly of an interior of the fuel tank. The surge tank is separated from the fuel tank by means of a constriction and is connected with the fuel tank by means of an inlet opening. The surge tank extends out of the fuel tank toward the bottom thereof. In an area of the inlet opening the surge tank is provided with an indentation which forms a connecting passage or duct between the fuel tank and the surge tank. The connecting duct or passage is separate from the inlet opening and a fuel return line is arranged so as to discharge returned fuel into the connecting duct. The fuel return line is provided with a nozzle which, together with the indentation, results in the formation of an injector arrangement for injecting returned fuel and cooler fuel from the interior space of the fuel tank into the surge tank.
