  • Patent number: 5033639
Abstract: Bunged vessel having solid carriage and transport rings formed in one piece with the shell of the vessel near the head surfaces of the vessel, wherein the horizontal lower edge of the ring and the vertical inner wall of the ring form the bearing surfaces for the vessel lifter. Each carriage and transport ring is connected in one piece with the vessel by a connecting ring formed of an axial prolongation of the cylindrical part of the shell of the vessel, while the bottom of the groove between the connecting ring and the part of the shell rising conically towards the head surface of the vessel is arranged at a distance below the horizontal bearing surface of the carriage and transport ring.

  • Patent number: 4925049
Abstract: A blow-molded thermoplastic drum comprising a carrying and transport ring having horizontal and vertical surfaces formed integrally with the drum shell is disclosed. The end portion of the drum shell opposite the carrying and transport ring is set back in conical fashion. To allow handling with standard mechanized drum handling equipment, a wide channel is formed between the vertical contact surface of the ring and the conical section. To this end, the carrying and transport ring is connected to the conical section of the shell by a wide connecting web which forms the bottom of the channel. The web is supported by a support structure. In a first embodiment, the support structure is zig-zag. In a second embodiment, the support structure comprises radially extending projections. Passageways are located in the bottom of the channel to allow runoff of water.

  • Patent number: 4842802
Abstract: Process for producing a blown hollow vessel having an external annular projection integrally formed from the vessel wall in the blowing process. The vessel is formed initially in a mold having a reduced contour in the wall regions adjoining the annular projection. The vessel thus formed is then placed in a mold having the desired finished contour and blown to its final shape. In this manner, the vessel wall adjoining the annular projection is stretched and the inner surface of the vessel wall is smoothed in the area where the annular projection was formed.

  • Patent number: 4768673
Abstract: A bunged vessel of thermoplastic material having outward projections at the upper edge of separately prefabricated carrying and transport rings for the prongs of an engaging handling means. The head surface of the wall of the vessel projects at a distance beyond the tip edge of the associated carrying and transport ring, and the wall portion extending from the point of attachment of the ring to the associated head surface of the vessel being conically inclined to the vertical centerline of the vessel.

  • Patent number: 4736862
Abstract: The invention is directed to a molded drum of thermoplastic material, in which the bungs are arranged in troughs on the drum-head and in which the troughs are open toward an adjacent L-shaped roller chime formed directly from the drum-body at some distance below the top end of the drum.

  • Patent number: 4674648
Abstract: Bung keg having a carry and transport ring molded to the envelope by a connecting web. The bottom edge and the vertical inner wall of the ring provide bearing surfaces for the keg grab. The connecting web merges into the envelope at an acute angle, while the grooved portion of the web, between the vertical inner wall and the keg head, has a bottom point that is in the same horizontal plane as the bottom edge. Besides being formed by a blown method, the bung key can be constructed by welding prefabricated components together.

  • Patent number: 4529570
Abstract: The method of producing a hollow body from plastic material with an annular protrusion disposed circumferentially around the wall of the body, the method comprising the formation of the protrusion by extruding the protrusion from the wall of the preform after the preform has been made.

  • Patent number: 4422839
Abstract: An annular exit die for an extrusion head of the type having a die casing ring and a tapered die core cooperating to form an annular die gap or orifice for fabricating a hollow extrudate of thermoplastic material. The tapered die core is adjustable in the axial direction and changes the radial cross-sectional dimension of the die gap as a function of its position. The casing ring has a lower end and an inner wall defining the outer boundary of the die gap. The wall has a step at the lower end of the ring. The step has an inner radially undulating circumferential profile and a radially undulating edge defining the boundary between the step and the lower end of the casing ring. The inner wall of the ring also has another step disposed radially inwardly of the first-mentioned step. This step has an inner radially symmetrical profile and a radially symmetrical edge defining the boundary between the two steps.

  • Patent number: 4378328
Abstract: The invention sets out a method and apparatus of forming a chime projecting radially outwardly of a blow molded hollow member. The chime is formed immediately after the blow molding of the hollow member by forming a radially outwardly projecting channel-shaped part in the side wall of the hollow member. The surfaces of the channel-shaped part are moved toward each other to form a welded connection at the radially inner end of the channel-shaped part. The movement of the channel-shaped part to form the chime is effected by telescoping slides which move axially at different stroke speeds and at different stroke lengths. The radially inwardly most disposed slide moves farthest and faster so as to produce a rolling movement of the channel-shaped part as the chime is formed. The resulting chime is integrally formed from the material of the hollow member and includes at least an outer wall extending circumferentially around the hollow member and a side wall to which the outer wall is welded at its inner radial end.

  • Patent number: 4208178
Abstract: An extrusion head for producing tubes of thermoplastic material includes a housing laterally enclosing a mandrel and an extruding nozzle mounted on one end of the housing. The housing and mandrel combine to form an accumulator space into which the thermoplastic material is charged from a source. One of the housing and the mandrel includes an extrusion plunger which is displaceable away from the nozzle into the accumulator space for displacing the thermoplastic material toward the nozzle. As the plunger moves into the accumulator space it forms one side of a variable length annular passageway defining the outlet path of the thermoplastic material from the accumulator space.

  • Patent number: 4152104
Abstract: In an axially extending extruder head for producing a thermoplastic tubular member, the material to be extruded is first supplied into a pair of annular first passageways spaced apart in the axial direction of the head, these passageways extend obliquely of the head axis. From the first passageways the material enters an axially elongated annular second passageway extending between the two first passageways. An annular third passage, extending transversely of the head axis, conveys the material from the second passageway into an axially extending feed passageway from which the material is extruded through the nozzle end of the head. The first, second and third passageways can be located in different parts of the extruder head.
