    Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display. The display may be mounted in a display housing having multiple display housing layers. The display housing layers may include metal layers and fiber composite layers. A fiber composite display housing layer may have an array of dimples. The fiber composite display housing layer may be attached to a planar metal layer using adhesive. An array of openings may be formed in the metal layer to lighten the display housing. A foam layer or other core may be sandwiched between display housing layers. Components may be embedded in the foam. Edge members may run along peripheral edges of the display housing layers. Electrical components may be mounted on printed circuits and housed within cavities in the display housing. The electrical components may include light-emitting diodes for a display. Heat from the electrical components may be dissipated in the metal layer.

A display such as an organic light-emitting diode display may be attached to a planar wall portion of the housing using a layer of adhesive. A display cover layer may be attached to the organic light-emitting diode with a layer of adhesive. The adhesive layers may be rigid to enhance device stiffness. The housing may have curved sidewall portions that extend outwardly from the planar wall portion to enhance stiffness. The organic light-emitting diode display may have an array of pixels formed from thin-film transistor circuitry. The thin-film transistor circuitry may be formed on a substrate such as a glass substrate that is attached to the planar wall portion. The organic light-emitting diode display may have a circular polarizer that is attached to the thin-film transistor circuitry.

At least one portion of the housing may have a rear planar surface and peripheral sidewalls having edges. A display module may be mounted in the housing. The display module may have glass layers such as a color filter glass layer and a thin-film transistor substrate. The color filter glass layer may serve as the outermost glass layer in the display module. The edges of the display module may be aligned with the edges of the peripheral housing sidewalls to create the appearance of a borderless display for the electronic device. The display module may be provided with an opening that allows a camera or other electronic components to receive light. Traces may be provided on the underside of the thin-film transistor substrate to serve as signal paths for the electrical components.

A layer of liquid crystal material may be interposed between the color filter layer and the thin film transistor layer. A layer of polarizer may be laminated onto the surface of the color filter layer. Laser trimming may ensure that the edges of the polarizer are even with the edges of the color filter layer. The thin film transistor layer may have an array of thin film transistors that control pixels of the liquid crystal material in the display. Driver circuitry may be used to control the array. The driver circuitry may be encapsulated in a planarized encapsulant on the thin film transistor layer or may be mounted to the underside of the color filter layer. Conductive structures may connect driver circuitry on the color filter layer to the thin film transistor layer.

The components further include a sensor capable of (i) detecting a change in flexure of the flexible contact members in accordance with the contacting, and (ii) responding to the change in flexure by providing a corresponding detection signal. The components can include a processor capable of generating a feedback instruction that is based upon the change in flexure. The component can include a communications unit that responds to the feedback instruction by transmitting a feedback parameter to the electronic device such that a graphical output is presented at a display of the electronic device in accordance with the change in flexure.

An electrical component such as a speaker, camera, light-emitting diode, light sensor, or other electrical device may be mounted in the inactive area in the recess or opening of the active area.
