  • Publication number: 20030123359
Abstract: The invention provides a method for adjusting a speed-detection device for an object lens in an optical pickup head. The invention provides an adjusted optical disc drive, wherein the optical pickup head is accelerated/decelerated and the speed-detection device outputs a standard signal level. Next, the optical pickup head of an unadjusted optical disc drive is accelerated/decelerated under the same condition, and the speed-detection device outputs a speed signal level. Finally, the gain of a programmable gain amplifier is adjusted until the speed signal is equal to the standard signal.

  • Publication number: 20030125766
Abstract: A collapsible medical device for use, e.g., as a vascular sealer. The device includes a sheath adapted to be positioned such that a distal end thereof is adjacent the opening. A mandrel is disposed within a lumen of the sheath and is adapted to be positioned such that a distal length thereof is adjacent the distal end of the sheath. A collapsible sealing member comprises a fluid-impervious film carried by a plurality of wires. The wires are attached to the mandrel and expand radially outward therefrom. In one method of using such a device, the sealing member is held in a collapsed position within the sheath. The sealing member is advanced through the sheath and beyond the distal end thereof, whereby the sealing member resiliently expands. The sealing member is positioned against the inner wall of the blood vessel adjacent the opening, thereby effecting a temporary seal of the opening. The sealant is introduced into the tissue tract. After hardening, the sealing member is collapsed within the sheath.

  • Publication number: 20030124846
Abstract: A DC magnetron sputter reactor for sputtering copper, its method of use, and shields and other parts promoting self-ionized plasma (SIP) sputtering, preferably at pressures below 5 milliTorr, preferably below 1 milliTorr. Also, a method of coating copper into a narrow and deep via or trench using SIP for a first copper layer. SIP is promoted by a small magnetron having poles of unequal magnetic strength and a high power applied to the target during sputtering. The SIP copper layer can act as a seed and nucleation layer for hole filling with conventional sputtering (PVD) or with electrochemical plating (ECP). For very high aspect-ratio holes, a copper seed layer is deposited by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) over the SIP copper nucleation layer, and PVD or ECP completes the hole filling. The copper seed layer may be deposited by a combination of SIP and high-density plasma sputtering. For very narrow holes, the CVD copper layer may fill the hole.

  • Publication number: 20030120637
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide access to a user's profile information to a location based service, location enable user profile information in external databases, portals, etc., and allow the seamless/transparent provision of location services using both internal and external profile information. A compact definition of a schema of an external database (that comprises a user's profile information) is stored. Data source information that describes how to connect and communicate with the external database and a structured query language (SQL) statement is stored, wherein the statement, upon execution, extracts properties from the external database corresponding to the compact definition. A foreign key identifies a record in the external database and positional information for the record in the external database is stored as a geocoding index. The stored information is then used to provide access to the user's profile information.

  • Patent number: 6580977
Abstract: This invention provides a new method and system to control strategies of a combined fuel cell and battery pack power system to produce an efficient and cost-effective powertrain with acceptable drivability and low emissions. The method and system provide strategies for vehicle start-up, power load changes, and steady state driving conditions. The strategies reduce vehicle maintenance cost by increasing the battery service life and fuel efficiency. Further, the strategies reduce vehicle cost by reducing fuel cell engine size required by a hybrid electric vehicle while responding rapidly to load changes. The strategies also provide increased fuel efficiency by recovery, storage, and re-use of the vehicle kinetic energy normally dissipated as heat during braking.

  • Patent number: 6580531
Abstract: A method and apparatus for in-circuit biasing of a modulated laser and bit error rate testing of an optical transmitter and/or optical receiver under the control of a test controller. The test controller is communicably coupled to an interface of a module under test, as well as to external test equipment. The test controller modifies operational parameters of the modulated laser, in order to obtain a desired output power and to obtain a predetermined extinction ratio. The operational parameters of the laser include a laser bias current, an electro-absorption modulator offset bias current and a modulation depth. The disclosed test controller also determines whether the optical transmitter and/or receiver exhibit acceptable bit error rates. The disclosed test controller uses a variable optical attenuator, in combination with an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) to control an optical signal to noise ratio for a signal terminating at either the transmitter or the receiver of the optical transceiver under test.
