  • Publication number: 20180367327
Abstract: Some embodiments include systems, methods, and devices for enabling communication between at least two internet protocol (IP)-only wireless transmit/receive units (WTRUs), at least one of which is connected to an information centric network (ICN). The WTRU may send a generic attribute registration multicast registration protocol (GMRP) request on a local IP link to an information centric network (ICN) network attachment point (NAP). The NAP may receive and register the GMRP request with an internal database (DB) along with an IP multicast address entry matching the GMRP request. The WTRU may then send an IP multicast packet to the NAP for dissemination to an IP multicast group over an ICN by encapsulating the IP multicast packet in an ICN packet.

  • Publication number: 20180359335
Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for a cooperative policy-driven content placement and/or retrieval in a backhaul-limited caching network. A policy request may be received from a policy client. An edge cache server for storing content may be determined based on at least one of an average latency, a backhaul bandwidth, a peak time table, and/or a residual storage capacity associated with the edge cache server. A time for pre-fetching content may be determined based on network usage statistics. The network usage statistics may include a historical peak time table. The content may be pre-fetched to the edge cache server at the determined time. The content may be retrieved by an access client from one or more edge cache servers in an organized manner. For example, the content may be sent to an access client from the edge cache server.

  • Publication number: 20180309664
Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for enhancing performance of multi-path communications. Multi-path communication performance may be enhanced by determining whether multi-path communications share a congested router. A multi-path real-time communication protocol may provide techniques to prevent, detect, communicate and respond to a shared congested router. A shared congested router may be prevented, and/or detected using one or more detection techniques.

  • Publication number: 20180278679
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and systems for surrogate server management in an ICN network is disclosed. One representative method may include subscribing, by a network entity, to attribute information to be published; obtaining, by the network entity, the published attribute information; determining, by the network entity, based on the obtained attribute information, whether to activate a virtual machine (VM) to be executed in a surrogate server or to deactivate the VM executing in the surrogate server; and sending, by the network entity to a second network entity, a command to activate or deactivate the VM.

  • Publication number: 20180227390
Abstract: Network nodes are described. A network node includes a transmitter, a receiver and a processor. The transmitter transmits at least one signal advertising the network node as the source of at least one specific content located outside of an information centric network (ICN) or a specific domain or all content located outside of the ICN. The receiver receives a request, from a requesting device, including an identifier for a piece of content for which the at least one signal advertised the ICN as the source of. The processor, in conjunction with the transmitter and the receiver, determines a forwarding rule for the request based at least on the identifier included in the request, forwards the request based on the determined forwarding rule, receives the piece of content, and forwards the received piece of content to the requesting device. The network node may be a Border Gateway translating between ICN and IP networking.

  • Publication number: 20180198684
Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed to communicate with subscribers in an information-centric networking environment. A WTRU may store a first path from the WTRU to a first subscriber and a second path from the WTRU to a second subscriber. A message from a topology manager may be received. The message may indicate a change to a network topology. In response to a determination that the change to the network topology relates to the first path and does not relate to the second path, the WTRU may remove the first path from the memory and maintain the second path in the memory. The WTRU may send a request to the topology manager for a third path to replace the first path that was removed from memory. In response to the above determination, a portion of the first path may be removed and replaced according to the above mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20180007116
Abstract: Methods and systems anchor hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) level communication in an information-centric networking (ICN) network. Both content requests and responses to servers within the ICN network and to servers located outside the ICN network, in an IP network for example, are disclosed. Communication may be between two IP capable only devices at the HTTP level, one connected to an ICN network while the other one is connected either to an ICN or IP network. The disclosed namespace 200 enables IP based HTTP communication within the ICN network. An information-centric networking (ICN) network attachment point (NAP) or border gateway (BGW) may receive an HTTP request packet and encapsulate the received HTTP request packet. The ICN NAP/BGW may then forward the HTTP request packet towards the local ICN network servers. The HTTP request packet may be published to a named content identifier (CID) that may be determined through a hash function of a fully qualified domain name (FQDN).

  • Publication number: 20170277806
Abstract: A method and network access point (NAP) capable of serving content to a requesting wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The NAP receives a request for content from the WTRU via an air interface associated with the NAP. The requested content is associated with an allowable latency. The NAP determines whether the requested content is cached locally at the NAP. On a condition that the requested content is not cached locally at the NAP, the NAP determines delay metrics associated with obtaining the requested content from a centralized cache and at least one neighboring NAP. The NAP selects the centralized cache or the at least one neighboring NAP to retrieve the requested content from based on the delay metrics and the allowable latency associated with the requested content. The NAP then transmits the requested content to the WTRU over the air interface.

  • Publication number: 20170048347
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses and systems may be used to populate and utilize content in distributed network attachment point (NAP) caches with the help of a statistical cache report synchronization scheme that may be tuned in terms of bandwidth consumption for the synchronization and overall surety of the retrieval requests, and therefore, the incurred penalty in terms of latency. One example references a particular statistical synchronization scheme based on a Bloom filter reconciliation set technique. Each NAP of a plurality of NAPs may receive a list of unique NAP identifiers (NAPIds) of neighboring NAPs at regular intervals. A first NAP may receive a first content request for a requested content. On a condition that the requested content is not located in a caching database of the first NAP, the first NAP may determine the NAPId of a second NAP likely holding the requested content and issue a content request.

  • Patent number: 8804712
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for facilitating the seamless handoff of IP connections between access routers in an IP network. The mobile IP network includes two or more access routers each serving a different geographic service area. When a mobile terminal moves from the first service area to the second service area, the mobile terminal transmits to the second access router the IP address of the previous access router. The second access router uses this information to learn capabilities of the first access router (e.g., bandwidths supported, security schemes, and the like) for use in future handoff decisions, and exchanges capability information with the first access router. The assumption is made based on the exchanged information that the access routers are geographically proximate.
