  • Patent number: 7408955
Abstract: A GE-PON (Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network) system and media access control method for the same are disclosed. In the GE-PON system, by employing MAC attributes of the gigabit Ethernet frames, an OLT (Optical Line Termination) transmits a downstream window containing both a control frame having timeslot position and size information in association with at least two ONUs and Ethernet frames to an ODN (Optical Distribution Network). The OLT analyzes contents of RAUs in an upstream window transmitted from the ONUs in a TDMA method and received from the ODN, and permits timeslot position and size corresponding to each of the ONUs. A plurality of ONUs, connected to the ODN, have their respective timeslot position and size allocated in response to their respective information contained in the control frame of the downstream window. RAU frames are transmitted having queue information and Ethernet frames associated with the allocated timeslots.

  • Publication number: 20080064425
Abstract: A mobile communication system for providing a multicast/broadcast service is disclosed. The mobile communication systems comprise a base station that encodes video data of the mobile communication system into scalable bit streams and adaptively modulates and channel codes the scalable bit streams. A mobile communication terminal receives, demodulates and channel decodes the scalable bit streams transmitted from the base station and performs a process for scalable decoding the bit streams according to reception sensitivity. Overall system efficiency can be improved while increasing a transmission rate using scalable video coding according to channel characteristics between the mobile communication terminal and the base station in the multicast/broadcast service. Quality of service (QoS) can be provided based on the performance of the mobile communication terminal.

  • Publication number: 20060061100
Abstract: A connector assembly for coupling a corrosive gas supply pipe with a glass tube in an apparatus for fabricating an optical fiber preform using vapor deposition is disclosed. The connector assembly includes a first connector formed on an inner periphery thereof with a threaded portion, a second connector having a stepped surface on an inner surface and formed on an outer periphery with a threaded portion threadedly engaged with the first connector, an O-ring installed in the first connector and in close contact with the stepped surface when the second connector is threadedly engaged with the first connector, and resilient means for urging the O-ring against the stepped surface. The connector assembly consistently applies a resilient force to the O-ring functioning as a seal between the first and second connectors. For a long-running operation, even though the O-ring is cured, the fitting maintains a consistent sealing state to prevent metal material from being oxidized by the corrosive gas.
