  • Patent number: 4577074
Abstract: The gas-blast type high voltage circuit breaker includes a first volume (27) in which gas pressure is increased due to heating by the breaking arc, the gas in this volume escaping to blow out the arc at current zero of the current being interrupted, and a second volume (37) in which the gas is compressed by a piston (39) at the beginning of the breaker opening phase, said gas being directed at the arc during the following phases. Circuit breaker further comprises main fixed contacts (21), fixed arcing contacts (24), main moving contacts and moving arcing contacts, the arc extending between the arcing contacts as the circuit breaker opens, said first volume (27) and second volume (37) being disposed to each side of the arcing region, being annular and ending in nozzles (26, 42) which direct separate jets of gas to the two respective roots of the arc.

  • Patent number: 4467157
Abstract: A pressurized gas circuit breaker capable of having a breaker chamber dismantled therefrom without loss of dielectric gas comprises: a vertical insulating support (101); a intermediate structure (100) mounted on said support and at least two breaker chambers (1, 1') per phase. Said chambers are disposed in a V-configuration on said intermediate structure, and said support and said breaker chambers are filled with gas under pressure. The circuit breaker further comprises a control jack (32) situated at the bottom of the support, and means for transmitting motion from the jack to the chambers to operate circuit breaking means located therein. Said means for transmitting motion comprise: gas-tight guide tube means (2, 2') filled, in use, with gas under pressure and having a straight insulating portion (102) situated inside the vertical insulating support and curved portions (103) situated inside said intermediate structure and leading to respective ones of said breaker chambers.

  • Patent number: 4338500
Abstract: The invention relates to a resistance switch-in device for switching in only when a circuit breaker closes, said switch-in device including a moving arcing contact in an interrupter chamber. The device is characterized in that the switch-in contacts (2 and 3, 32 and 33) are disposed in the interrupter chamber (1) of the circuit breaker and that since at least one (2,32,33) of said switch-in contacts is a moving contact, it moves on a path parallel to that of the moving arcing contact (5). The invention applies in particular to connecting a load to long-distance high-tension circuits that are unloaded.

  • Patent number: 4263490
Abstract: A reciprocating rod bears a bridge which is movable on the rod with initial movement of the rod in a given direction completing closure of bridge carried moving contacts onto stationary contacts for inserting a resistance in a circuit during closure. Linkage between the rod and main contacts functions to subsequently close the main contacts of the cut-out switch, thereby shorting the resistor. Continued movement of the rod in a given direction subsequently causes the bridge borne contacts to move away from the stationary contacts, thereby opening the circuit through the resistors.
