  • Publication number: 20100206572
Abstract: A cementing tool for use in a well has a housing and a closing sleeve received thereabout. An operating sleeve is received in the housing and is interconnected with the closing sleeve so that movement in the operating sleeve will cause the closing sleeve to move. The closing sleeve is detachably connected to the housing and is movable from the first or open position to a second or closed position in which it covers cementing ports defined in the housing. The tool has a plurality of lock rings that are moved with the closing sleeve. A plurality of locking grooves are adapted to receive the lock rings such that the engagement of any of the lock rings with any of the locking grooves will prevent the closing sleeve from moving out of the closed position.

  • Publication number: 20060081362
Abstract: An apparatus and method for fabricating an externally finned tubular heat exchanger assembly comprising two concentric thin walled tubular members defining therebetween an intermediate inner annular fluid flow channel, and positionally fixed therewithin an internal turbulizer strip extending longitudinally in a helical spiral. The tubulizer strip is embossed with corrugations prior to installation into the intermediate inner annular fluid flow channel. The corrugated strip is helically spiraled with sequential bridge gap spaces between adjacent serial turns wherein the corrugations form a series of triangular cross-sectional fluid flow passageways. Turbulizer corrugation expansion, after insertion into the inner intermediate annular fluid flow channel, mechanically anchors the corrugated turbulizer strip to the second inner concentric tubular member that has an end groove to provide engagement connection.

  • Publication number: 20050214731
Abstract: An evidence-based instruction and evaluation system, which presents users with scenarios containing a situational profile domain having parametric information defining a situation to be remedially addressed; and, a course of remedial action domain predicted upon evidence-based practice guidelines, which compares the users' selection to a set of predetermined responses, including those of experts in the field, to produce a graded tutorial for virtually instructing and/or evaluating the user. Advantageously, the scenario also includes an evaluation domain of empirically derived data relating to the profile domain presented. In a further aspect, the system is computerized and the domains reside on relational databases, such that one or more of the domain parameters can be independently changed to alter the response result.

  • Publication number: 20050064188
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include an optical fiber preform assembly and a method for making optical fiber using the preform assembly. The assembly includes a preform core rod, at least one overclad tube formed around the preform core rod, a handle attached to one end of the overclad tube, and a refractory material positioned in the overclad tube between the preform core rod and the handle. The refractory material reduces if not prevents movement of the preform core rod into the handle during the fiber draw process. Preferably, the refractory material is made of, e.g., magnesium oxide and/or aluminum oxide, and has a melting point, e.g., greater than approximately 2000 degrees Celsius. Embodiments of the invention also include a method for making optical fiber using this preform assembly.

  • Publication number: 20040256528
Abstract: A tube support bracket that comprises an aluminum-coated steel support bracket formed having a circular tube-receiving aperture and an annular, castellated collar abutting the aperture. The aperture and collar are sized for receiving therethrough in close-fitting relationship an aluminum alloy heat exchanger tube. The collar, formed by a draw-punching process, has a plurality of spaced-apart, axial tabs sized for swaging against in hoop stress and bite the received tube. An inner surface of each of the collar tabs being has at least one axial groove therein, the groove being configured for receiving exterior regions of the received tube when the collar is swaged tightly against the tube to thereby lock the tube in the collar and thus in the support bracket. A corresponding method for making a tube support is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 6782679
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for applying flexible straps around objects include a feed and tension unit a feed drive wheel and a feed pinch wheel, a primary tension drive wheel and a primary tension pinch wheel, and a secondary tension drive wheel and a secondary tension pinch wheel, wherein at least one of the pinch wheels is controllably biased against the respective drive wheel by a solenoid that is controlled in two stages: a first stage that provides a full feed or tensioning force and a second stage that provides a reduced feed or tensioning force by altering the pulse width modulation of the solenoid. In another embodiment, the three sets of wheels of the feed and tension unit are configured to provide a simplified “V-shaped” strap path that reduces bending of the strap, thereby reducing friction and consequent feeding difficulties.
