  • Patent number: 4660036
Abstract: A single turn absolute position encoder is disclosed capable of being manufactured in extremely small size while maintaining high resolution. An indented version having a discrete position output signal is disclosed as well as a non-indented continuous position output device having an index for coarse position location as well as apertures for fine position location. This device may be designed for extremely high resolution in a single turn device, or may be geared to further improve resolution.

  • Patent number: 4583094
Abstract: A solid state attitude and director indicator (ADI) is disclosed utilizing liquid crystal display technology to represent attitude of a vehicle in two axes. A visual representation of attitude changes is provided on the liquid crystal display as well as numeric data, in a preferred embodiment. Additionally, glideslope, localizer, and approach speed may be displayed as well as heading and command bar information.

  • Patent number: 4555625
Abstract: Disclosed is a highly precise encoding structure utilizing incremental or absolute encoding techniques. The drum configuration allows the use of less expensive materials and the capability to manufacture such a device in a labor-saving and therefore less expensive manner. This is accomplished, in part, by utilizing drums having differing radius measurements, thereby requiring a simpler gearing interrelationship between the plurality of drums. Furthermore, in one embodiment, drums of differing sizes may be installed one inside the other in a space-saving configuration.

  • Patent number: 4518225
Abstract: A brilliant liquid crystal display having the capability of a wide variety of coloration is disclosed utilizing a photoluminescent transflector for concentrating the internal light and ambient light into a narrow frequency range which is coordinated with the dye selected for the liquid crystal, resulting in an enhanced brightness for the display. Masking all regions of the liquid crystal display except for the selectively annunciating segments thereof, the resultant display is capable of a broad range of colors having a significantly enhanced luminance characteristic.

  • Patent number: 4515440
Abstract: A structure is disclosed wherein several liquid crystal displays are mounted in close proximity to one another without limiting viewing angle. The displays are mounted in a housing with elastomeric connectors and then covered with a mask, which extends over the gap between the displays. The mask is then covered by a glass member, which is held in place on the mask and the liquid crystal display assembly to compress the elastomeric connectors and insure good electrical contact. The resulting display resembles a single large liquid crystal with no degradation of viewing angle.
