    Abstract: A multiposition optical connector 2 and a mating header 4 are disclosed. The connector includes a plurality of ferrules 10 for terminating individual plastic optical fiber cables 6. An alignment fixture 100 is used to precisely align each ferrule relative to the other ferrules and relative to peripheral mating surface protrusions 52 on a molded alignment plate 12. The ferrules are ultrasonically bonded to the alignment plate. True positioning for multiple fibers located in the multiposition connector relative to active optoelectronic devices 90 located in the header can be achieved when the connector and the header are mated. A previously assembled harness assembly using the optical connector 2 and a hybrid electrical and optical connector 202 is suited for use in making multiple connections to products, such as automobiles, in which the final assembly is completed in an assembly line.

    Abstract: Plastics are described which contain, in intimate contact with the pigments, boric acid in a quantity of 1 to 20% by weight, preferably 2 to 15% by weight, of the dry pigment. Also described is the process for producing said plastics, in which the usual plastic granules or powders are mixed with the above-mentioned quantities of boric acid before, during or after addition of the pigment, and the boric acid is brought into intimate contact with the pigment before further processing, of the particulate plastic is mixed with the pigment containing the above mentioned quantities of boric acid before being subjected to further processing under thermal stress.

    Abstract: Head harness form gas mask consists of several pieces of biaxially stretchable elastic fabric stitched together to provide a concave configuration in the relaxed state. The harness is shaped and sized to fit a range of normal human heads by stretching over the back and top of the head. The forward edge of the harness has a number of tongues of the elastic fabric that attach to a gas mask. The preferred material for the harness is a 280 denier bare spandex power net fabric that has a flat load versus elongation curve. A gas mask fitted with the harness applies a uniform pressure within the comfort range on the face of the wearer without significant adjustment of the harness, despite wide ranges in the head size and configuration of the wearer.

    Abstract: A transceiver for use with a digital telephone apparatus adapted to be connected for duplex communication to a telephone speech transmission line includes a receiving unit and a transmitting unit. The receiving unit processes an incoming serial ternary level signal stream composed of alternate mark inverted (AMI) encoded pulses and received from the transmission line. A compensation filter compensates distortions of the transmitted signals. A full wave rectifier circuit generates unipolar output signals. A pulse detection circuit derives rectangular pulses from the unipolar output signals. A phase-locked loop (PLL) circuit reconstructs a clock pulse train from the rectangular pulses. The transmitting unit receives an outgoing serial data stream from the telephone apparatus and internal clock pulses from that PLL circuit and includes means for converting the pulses of the outgoing data stream into AMI encoded signals.
