  • Publication number: 20110188560
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium for basis selection is described. A plurality of sub-bands of digital data is generated and a basis function for the digital data in one of the plurality of sub-bands is determined at a rate that provides a substantially peak signal-to-noise ratio for the digital data. • Patent number: 7975060
Abstract: A video server for transmitting video across a network to a plurality of users includes a coder (112) which operates in response to call requests or instructions received across the network (102) from individual clients (104, 106). The server maintains in memory a series of user status records (116), one for each of the users. Each record includes, or refers to, a copy of a previous frame sent to the respective user. When the coder (112) receives a call request, it uses the previously-sent frame for that user to optimise coding the current frame that is to be sent, received from a frame grabber (110). The invention avoids the difficulties of video broadcasting while still requiring only a single instance of a video coder.

  • Publication number: 20110037200
Abstract: A method of producing a sheet-form material having an exposed solid surface comprises pre-mixing cement with at least one pozzolan to provide a cement/pozzolan mixture with a high pozzolan to cement ratio, adding to the cement/pozzolan mixture an aqueous solution comprised of water and a high range water reducer to produce a cement/pozzolan dough-like substance, adding and mixing a sufficient quantity of glass aggregate to said cement/pozzolan dough-like substance to produce a moldable composition, wherein, after adding and mixing in the glass aggregate, the pozzolan is present in the composition at about 5% to about 20% by weight, the cement is present in the composition at about 3% to about 20% by weight, and the aggregate glass is by weight a relatively high percentage of the composition. The moldable composition is placed into a mold and vibrated, and is allowed to cure.

  • Patent number: 7844084
Abstract: A method of comparing a test iris image with a candidate iris image comprises generating test and candidate lists representative of measured image values along respective curves around the pupils. Treating these list as periodic, a relative displacement is calculated at which one list best matches the other list. This determines the amount of rotation required for best match of the iris images. The method may be used either alone or in combination with other identity verification systems.

  • Publication number: 20100281043
Abstract: A method of improving the speed with which a sample such as a biometric sample can be fuzzily matched against records in a database, comprises extracting characteristics from the sample, and using those extracted characteristics as indexes (70) to address a lookup table (25). Each row within the lookup table points to an individual record occurrence list (28, 30, 32) which contain details of not only the stored records from which the given characteristic can be extracted, but also those records having an extracted characteristic which are within a defined proximity to the said characteristic. Characteristics are extracted from the sample record, and a given stored record is identified as being a possible match with the sample if it appears in a required number of record occurrence lists.

  • Patent number: 7771529
Abstract: A cementitious composition for high density, low porosity sheet-form building materials having solid surfaces is comprised of cement, pozzolans, and a high percentage of fine and/or coarse glass aggregate, preferably present in an amount which by weight is at least 60% of the composition. The cement content is relatively low, preferably in the range of about 3% to 20% by weight, and the pozzolan to cement ratio is relatively high, preferably equal to or greater than unity, but which can suitably be in the range from 0.25 to 4. The composition preferably uses recycled glass and preferably has a high recycle content. The sheet-form material made in accordance with the invention can be used to provide exposed solid surfaces, for example, surfaces for shower walls and floors, counter-tops, table-tops, and the like, where low hydraulic permeability and high compressive and tensile strength are desired.
