  • Patent number: 11917011
Abstract: A method by a rendering device includes receiving a request to render multiple surfaces corresponding to multiple virtual objects to be concurrently displayed on an augmented-reality (AR) headset. The method further includes that the AR headset is connected to the rendering device via a wireless link. In response to a determination that a network quality of the wireless link is below a threshold condition, the method further includes selecting a first subset of the multiple surfaces that are higher priority than a second subset of the plurality of surfaces. The method includes transmitting the first subset of multiple surfaces to the AR headset for display and transmitting the second subset of multiple surfaces to the AR headset for display after transmitting the first subset. This method includes rendering the surfaces in accordance with a set of rendering parameters so as to satisfy one or more network constraints.

  • Patent number: 11882552
Abstract: Disclosed herein are a system, a method and a device for switching between different communications protocols. A head wearable display can transmit, to a console during a first session interval, a first request to switch from a first link using a first communication protocol to a second link using a second communication protocol. The first request can include at least one characteristic of the first link. The head wearable display can receive, from the console, a first response to the first request, to perform a switch from the first link to the second link. The first response can indicate a wake up time and a second session interval to perform the switch. The head wearable display can switch from the first link to the second link in the second session interval and after the wake up time.

  • Patent number: 11844023
Abstract: Disclosed herein are related to dynamically adjusting a wake time and a sleep time for wireless communication between two or more devices to reduce power consumption. In one aspect, a first device enters a wake up state to wirelessly communicate with a second device for a service period with a determined duration scheduled according to a target wake time (TWT) protocol. In one aspect, the first device monitors for one or more indicators from the second device indicating that additional data is available for communication. In one aspect, the first device extends the service period beyond the determined duration, in response to receiving a first indicator of the one or more indicators. In one aspect, the first device communicates with the second device the additional data during the service period extended beyond the determined duration.

  • Publication number: 20230385591
Abstract: An electronic device may be attached to an external item. The electronic device may include an optical identification sensor configured to sense a color-encoded tag in the external item when the item is attached to the device. The optical identification sensor may include a board layer, a protective filter layer, wall structures for supporting the protective filter layer on the board layer, a linear array of photodetectors disposed between the board layer and the protective filter layer, a field-of-view restriction filter interposed between the photodetectors and the protective filter layer, and a light source having multiple emitters for illuminating the color-encoded tag. The emitters may be activated sequentially to produce multiple images that are combined to reconstruct an accurate reading of the color-encoded tag, which can then be used to identify the type of external item currently attached to the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20230288252
Abstract: An electronic device may have an ambient light sensor for gathering ambient light measurements. The ambient light sensor may include multiple channels for measuring different wavelengths of ambient light. An additional, modified, channel may be formed in the ambient light sensor to measure radio-frequency signals that may interfere with the ambient light measurements due to electromagnetic interference. Alternatively, circuitry separate from the ambient light sensor, such as an antenna, may measure the radio-frequency signals. If the radio-frequency signals exceed a threshold, the ambient light sensor measurements taken in the presence of the radio-frequency signals may be discarded or corrected. If the radio-frequency signals do not exceed a threshold, the ambient light sensor measurements may be kept. Therefore, the ambient light measurements that are kept and relied upon by the electronic device may be free from electromagnetic interference.

  • Publication number: 20230258785
Abstract: An electronic device may include a proximity sensor under a cover layer. The proximity sensor may include a light-emitter, such as an infrared light source, and a light-detector, such as an array of single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs). The SPADs may measure light that has reflected from an external object. However, some of the light may be reflected by the cover layer, creating cross-talk. To distinguish between the cross-talk and signals from the external object, processing circuitry may histogram measurements from the SPADs. In particular, the processing circuitry may histogram near-field and/or far-field measurements into different histograms. The measurements may be weighted and/or gated prior to histogramming. In this way, cross-talk may be distinguished from the near-field and far-field signals.

  • Patent number: 11722975
Abstract: Disclosed herein are related to coordinating communication among a first access point, a first station device, a second access point, and a second station device. In one aspect, the second access point receives, from the first access point, a first beacon of the first access point at a first beacon transmission time. The first beacon may indicate an offset between the first beacon transmission time of the first beacon and a first data transmission time of the first access point for communication between the first access point and a first station device. In one aspect, the second access point may determine, according to the offset, a second data transmission time of the second access point to be distinct from the first data transmission time of the first access point. The second access point may communicate with a second station device, according to the second data transmission time.

  • Patent number: 11723003
Abstract: Disclosed herein are related to a system and a method of remotely rendering artificial reality. In one approach, a console determines an expected transmission end time of a first session for wireless transmission of image data indicating an image of artificial reality to a head wearable display. In one approach, the console determines an expected process end time of generating additional data associated with the image of the artificial reality. In one approach, the console compares the expected transmission end time and the expected process end time. The console may transmit, to the head wearable display in the first session, the additional data together with the image data, in response to the expected process end time being less than the expected transmission end time.
