Abstract: Semiconductor devices having improved contact resistance and methods for fabricating such semiconductor devices are provided. These semiconductor devices include a semiconductor device structure and a contact. The contact is electrically and physically coupled to the semiconductor device structure at both a surface portion and a sidewall portion of the semiconductor device structure.

Abstract: The halo implant technique described herein employs a halo implant mask that creates a halo implant shadowing effect during halo dopant bombardment. A first transistor device structure and a second transistor device structure are formed on a wafer such that they are orthogonally oriented to each other. A common halo implant mask is created with features that prevent halo implantation of the diffusion region of the second transistor device structure during halo implantation of the diffusion region of the first transistor device structure, and with features that prevent halo implantation of the diffusion region of the first transistor device structure during halo implantation of the diffusion region of the second transistor device structure. The orthogonal orientation of the transistor device structures and the pattern of the halo implant mask obviates the need to create multiple implant masks to achieve different threshold voltages for the transistor device structures.

Abstract: A stress-enhanced semiconductor device is provided which includes a substrate having an inactive region and an active region, a first-type stress layer overlying at least a portion of the active region, and a second-type stress layer. The active region includes a first lateral edge which defines a first width of the active region, and a second lateral edge which defines a second width of the active region. The second-type stress layer is disposed adjacent the second lateral edge of the active region.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for legal intercept monitoring of a cellular telephone modem (CTM) device. More particularly, a system incorporating a CTM-to-TTY/TDD converter and a Call Content Delivery Unit (CCDU) to facilitate the monitoring of calls made to or from a CTM device is implemented.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for establishing a multi-user call in a communication system. The communication system receives a call request to establish a group call with a shared group of users. The communication system determines which of the plurality of individual users should be excluded from the call and connects each of the group of included users to establish a multi-user call. The communication system preferably indicates that a unit was not currently available, for example by playing a prerecorded message, playing a tone and also preferably indicates why a unit was not available.

Abstract: A method, template, protocol, apparatus, system, and computer software for implementing a binary protocol for session initiation in a wireless communications system. The method for creating, modifying or terminating an IP multimedia session among one or more binary session initiation protocol (B-SIP) entities includes providing a flexible template with at least one mandatory field and at least one optional field, wherein the flexible template has fixed and variable length fields, representing a message type with a template id, and maintaining session specific information in a cache.

Abstract: In a telecommunications system (100), a method and apparatus for buffering the initial speech of an initial speaker in a push-to-talk call is disclosed. The method includes the steps of determining at least one participant or group to call (410, 510), sending a call request to the at least one participant or group (520), determining if the at least one participant or group is registered with the telecommunications system, notifying the initial speaker to begin speaking after determining at least one participant is registered with the telecommunications system but prior to connecting all called parties, receiving and digitizing voice packets from the initial speaker, storing the digitized data packets in a storage medium and transmitting the digitized voice packets when a predetermined packet transmission triggering event occurs.

The request includes a list of participants and may include an indication of the resources necessary and any rules for the conference call. The request may indicate critical resources or participants that are required for the call. Based on the request, the server determines a conference time and notifies participants of the time (204, 206, 210). Prior to conference time, participants are reminded of the time and automatically connected to the call. The server may check the status of users on the telecommunications network to determine availability. If a critical participant or resource is unavailable at conference time, the conference may be cancelled with notification to the participants.

If the calling phone is data-capable, the data message is sent directly to the calling phone. If the calling phone is not data-capable, the data message is sent to a server that converts the data message to a voice message and sends the voice message to the calling phone. The calling phone can send a message back to the called phone in response to the data message sent from the called phone.

Abstract: Information corresponding to a half duplex voice call over a packet network is delivered to unavailable members of a group through alternate communication services. A call request for half duplex voice calls over a packet network is received at a communication server where the call request indicates a group. Packets corresponding to the voice call are converted into an alternate formatted message and delivered, through an alternate communication system, to unavailable members of the group not able to engage in the voice call at the time of the call. The alternate formatted message such as Instant Messaging (IM) message or voice mail message is delivered to the unavailable member when that member is able to receive such a message.

When a user places a call over the network (202), a determination is made as to whether or not the destination is available. If the destination is not available, the caller is placed on hold (204). While on hold, the user is invited to accept multimedia data, including, for example, a cartoon, interactive game, information, advertisement or the like (206). If the user accepts the invitation (208), bearer channels are set up to send the multimedia data (212). The user may end the multimedia session if the destination becomes available or may continue the multimedia session during and after the voice call to the destination.
