The semiconductor memory device includes a word line on the first side wall of the active pattern, a contact structure, and includes an upper surface and a bottom surface opposite to each other. The bottom surface of the contact structure contacts the second surface of the active pattern and a data storage pattern on the upper surface of the contact structure, and includes a lower electrode and a capacitor dielectric film.
