  • Publication number: 20050035207
Abstract: An optical reader is provided for reading a bar code having ultraviolet-wavelength-responsive properties. The optical reader includes an ultraviolet light source, a photodetector, an optical system and a decoder. The ultraviolet light source generates ultraviolet light having a wavelength shorter than visible light and longer than X-rays for illuminating a target region. The photodetector generates output electrical signals indicative of light incident thereon having a wavelength within a predetermined range of wavelengths. The optical system includes a projection portion and a collection portion. The projection portion directs the ultraviolet light along a projection path extending from the ultraviolet light source to the target region. The collection portion collects the light from a bar code when the bar code occupies the target region and directs the collected light along a collection path extending from the target region to the photodetector.

  • Publication number: 20050021672
Abstract: A method of accessing a remote location on a network using an optical reader. The optical reader has an optical scanning system and a dedicated address memory system. The optical scanning system, in response to the user scanning an encoded indicia therewith, sends to a first computer disposed on the network a scan code indicative of information encoded in the scanned indicia. The dedicated address memory system, in response to the user completing an activation sequence, sends to the first computer a dedicated code indicative of information corresponding to a particular remote location. The information from the dedicated address memory system corresponding to a particular remote location does not originate from the scanning of an encoded indica by the user. One of the scan code and the dedicated code is transmitted from the optical reader to the first computer.

  • Publication number: 20050015643
Abstract: The present invention is a checkpoint processor configured for coupling to individual Web services through a Web services engine. The checkpoint processor can include checkpoint logic programmed to store checkpoint data for the individual Web service instance invocations. The checkpoint processor further can include restart logic programmed to restore the stored checkpoint data to a replacement for failed ones of the individual Web service instance invocations. Finally, the checkpoint processor can include cleanup logic programmed to removed the stored checkpoint data for concluded, non-failed ones of the individual Web service instance invocations. Notably, in a preferred aspect of the invention, logic can be included for identifying an asynchronous correlator for each one of the individual Web service instance invocations and for storing the asynchronous correlator in association with corresponding ones of the stored checkpoint data.

  • Patent number: 6719129
Abstract: A cigarette pack holder adapted to receive in combination a cigarette pack containing cigarettes. The holder includes a rectangularly-shaped housing having a planar front wall; an opposing rear wall; a pair of opposing planar side walls connected to the front and back walls; a planar base at one end of the housing; the walls and the base defining therebetween a chamber to receive the pack in removable engagement; an open-ended top at the other end of the housing through which the pack can operably pass into and out of the chamber; the base having portions defining an aperture of requisite shape and size to enable entry of a human digit to effect displacement of the pack within the chamber; and retaining structure connected to the rear wall adapted to be removably retained by an object worn by a person. The holder provides for the convenient and safe carrying of a pack of cigarettes by a person on the person's attire.

  • Patent number: 5974844
Abstract: An improved combination key and transporter assembly is provided whereby the head of the key includes an elongated slot that passes through the head. A carrier is molded into the slot disposed in the key head which includes a hollow interior bound by a plurality of tabs for frictionally retaining a transponder in the carrier. After the transponder is inserted into the carrier, the key head, carrier and transponder are inserted into a mold and an outer sheath is molded around the head, carrier and transponder. The resulting assembly has a slim profile and may be mounted onto a standard sized key chain or key holder. The assembly may be manufactured using an automated process without hand sub-assembly steps.
