  • Patent number: 7570554
Abstract: An optical disc is manufactured under a uniform condition by forming grooves and lands on the entire surface of the disc. The optical disc is configured to obtain a reliable reproduction signal, and the grooves and lands are formed on a lead-in area, a user data area and a lead-out area of the optical disc. Since the same manufacturing condition can be adopted in mastering discs, the yield can be enhanced and the manufacturing cost can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7565599
Abstract: An information storage medium includes a drive zone having a plurality of physical clusters or ECC blocks. When new drive data is recorded in the drive zone, the new drive data is recorded in a physical cluster or ECC block next to the physical cluster or ECC block containing the most recently recorded drive data. In the method of recording drive data, the drive data is recorded in a physical cluster or ECC block of the drive zone. When the drive zone is updated with the new drive data, the new drive data is recorded in the physical cluster or ECC block adjacent to physical cluster or ECC block containing the most recently drive data. The drive data recording method is applicable to a new format of information storage medium.

  • Patent number: 7512960
Abstract: A hub-mounted optical disk to eliminate the need for a separate stack ring while decreasing the overall height, a method of fabricating the optical disk, and an injection molding die for manufacturing an optical disk substrate. The hub-mounted optical disk includes a substrate having a hollow and an indented portion engraved to a predetermined depth on the inside of a non-recording surface where no information is recorded; and a hub including a plate that has a fitting hole therein and is engaged into the hollow and the indented portion and a central ring that is inserted into the fitting hole. The method of fabricating the hub-mounted optical disk includes mounting the hub onto a magnetic chuck, applying an ultra-violet (UV) hardening resin on the indented portion of the substrate, operating the magnetic chuck so that the plate is in contact with the indented portion, and curing the UV hardening resin by irradiating it with UV light.

  • Patent number: 7499389
Abstract: A super resolution information storage medium capable of reproducing information recorded thereon as a mark with a size less than the resolution limit of an incident light beam, includes marks of varying sizes recorded thereon, excluding marks with a size in the vicinity of the resolution limit, where the resolution limit depends on the wavelength of a light source irradiating light on the information storage medium and the numerical aperture of an object lens focusing the light irradiated from the light source on the information storage medium. By adjusting the size of or excluding a mark with a size in the vicinity of the limit of the resolution that has a low C/N ratio, the C/N ratio is improved and the performance of super resolution information reproduction is improved such that high density and high capacity information storage medium can be implemented.

  • Patent number: 7496016
Abstract: An information storage medium includes an area in which updated disc-related information and recording-related information updated with a change in at least one of a disc version number and a recording speed is recorded along with existing disc-related information and recording-related information. The existing disc-related information and recording-related information are recorded, and the updated disc-related information and recording-related information is recorded in an area in which the existing disc-related information and recording-related information is recorded. Accordingly, data can be recorded/reproduced on/from a new version of information storage medium even using an existing drive.

  • Publication number: 20080316885
Abstract: An optical recording medium is provided for allowing data to be recorded on, erased from, and reproduced from, and storing information about power levels of an erase pulse. The recorded erase pattern information may include information about power levels of first and last pulses of an erase pattern for erasing data. The first and last pulses of the erase pattern can be differently set depending on the differing kind of recording layer or layers of a disk or differing kinds of disks and recorded in a reproducible only area or rewritable area of the optical recording medium. Thus, by presetting the appropriate erase power levels, the time required for selecting an optimal erase power for the optical recording medium can be considerably reduced.

  • Publication number: 20080273449
Abstract: An optical recording medium has a user data area and a lead-out area each having grooves and lands formed thereon. Wobbles are formed on at least one lateral surface of the grooves of the user data area and the lead-out area, and configured such that wobble characteristics are made different between the user data area and the lead-out area. Different types of the wobbles are formed on the grooves of either the user data area or the lead-out area, thereby preventing an optical pickup that performs recording/reproducing, from deviating from the user data area. Also, in a multi-layer optical recording medium, a whole area of a recording layer is configured to have the same condition, thereby preventing deterioration in reproducing and/or recording due to a difference in light power transmittance of another recording layer.

  • Publication number: 20080239913
Abstract: An adaptive writing method of a high-density optical recording apparatus and a circuit thereof. The circuit includes a discriminator for discriminating a magnitude of a present mark of input NRZI data and magnitudes of leading and/or trailing spaces of the input NRZI data, a generator for controlling the waveform of a write pulse in accordance with the magnitude of the present mark of the input NRZI data and the magnitudes of the leading and/or trailing spaces of the input NRZI data to generate an adaptive write pulse, and a driver for driving a light source by converting the adaptive write pulse into a current signal in accordance with driving power levels for respective channels of the adaptive write pulse. The widths of the first and/or last pulses of the write pulse waveform are varied in accordance with the magnitude of the present mark of input NRZI data and the magnitude of the leading and/or trailing spaces, thereby minimizing jitter to enhance system reliability and performance.
