  • Patent number: 5733964
Abstract: Heterogeneous polymer mixtures comprising a polymer in liquid or supercritical CO.sub.2 are stabilized by employing a poly(propylene oxide) or poly(butylene oxide) based surfactant. These surfactants are especially well suited for stabilizing heterogeneous polymer mixtures formed by micronizing techniques as well as by precipitation of a compressed fluid antisolvent applications.

  • Patent number: 5641192
Abstract: An aerodynamic, lightweight, flexible material top for enclosing a flatbed of a wheeled vehicle having a front and rear, the top includes a series of inverted, U-shaped supports extending upwardly from and across the flatbed with a first support at the front and a last support at the rear. A flexible material is stretched over the supports and includes a fixed sleeve and a laterally adjustable sleeve which are secured about the first and last supports. At least a portion of the top is pivotally connected as to swing upwardly away from the flatbed to gain access under the top and to the flatbed.

  • Patent number: 5450125
Abstract: An imaging UV/visible fluorosensing and Raman lidar system comprises an optical sensor for simultaneously measuring temporally, spatially and spectrally resolved laser backscatter from on the land, on or beneath the surface of bodies of water and in the atmosphere and utilizes "active" interrogation or "passive" interrogation for remotely and non-destructively probing the spectrally-dependent optical properties of a scene. In the "active" mode, the optical sensor of this invention comprises a transmitter (preferably a tunable solid state laser) which emits pulses of coherent light through a variable or adjustable field-of-view telescope whereupon the light pulses are then propagated towards a scene (e.g., land, sea or atmosphere). Thereafter, laser backscatter is collected by a second variable field-of-view telescope and directed to an imaging system and spectrally dispersive optical subsystem.

  • Patent number: 5230072
Abstract: A system for use in conjunction with a digital data processing system includes an applications program, a user interface and a hierarchy information management system. The applications program generates an information hierarchy including a plurality of hierarchy information items organized in a plurality of hierarchy levels. The user interface includes a display for displaying information to a user and an event initiator, such as, for example, a keyboard or a mouse for generating event information. The hierarchy information management system receives hierarchy information items at selected hierarchy levels from the applications program and transmits the received hierarchy information items to the display of the user interface for display, and responds to the event information by initiating selected operations in connection with the received hierarchy information.

  • Patent number: 4811915
Abstract: A rider roll relieveing system includes a microprocessor for controlling the rider roll force applied to a roll of web material being wound which in turn controls the roll's density or hardness. The operator programs into the system the desired rider roll force or load at the start of the wind and a first diameter at which the rider roll relief is to begin. Also, the ending load at a second diameter at which relieving is to finish is programmed into the system. The microprocessor then provides for the progressive elief of the load as function of the roll's diameter, geometry, and weight between the two prestablished diameters to provide the desired hardness or the roll. The rider roll force is maintained constant until the web has been wound to the first diameter and after it has obtained the second diameter. The system digitally displays the winding roll's diameter and the rider roll force during the winding operation.
