  • Publication number: 20140365909
Abstract: This is directed to rotating an entire user interface of a portable electronic device. In particular, this is directed to defining a UI orientation mode in which a user can direct the device to rotate a UI. When the UI orientation mode is enabled, the electronic device can detect particular inputs, for example based on the outputs of motion sensing components such as an accelerometer and a magnetometer, to determine how to rotate the UI. Once the UI has been rotated to a desired orientation, a user can lock the UI orientation and exit the UI orientation mode.

  • Publication number: 20140362776
Abstract: An application may be associated with an application endpoint that is accessed via a wireless local area network. In this disclosure, a wireless station may select and associated with one of a plurality of access points that provides better application throughput to the application endpoint. The application throughput may be based upon a combination of the wireless link rate (between the wireless station and the access point) as well as a measured application data rate (from the access point to the application endpoint). An access point may measure and advertise application data rates for a plurality of application endpoints, including one or more servers coupled to the local area network, a gateway to a wide area network, and/or a server coupled to the wide area network.

  • Publication number: 20140363525
Abstract: A method and system for generating and delivering nitric oxide directly to a patient. A reaction chamber is provided that is located at or in close proximity to the patient and reactants within the reaction chamber react together to produce a predetermined amount of nitric oxide. The reaction is controlled by metering at least one of the reactants into the reaction chamber to generate a predetermined quantity of nitric oxide as required by the patient. The reactants can include a nitrite salt, such as sodium nitrite, and a reductant such as ascorbic acid, maleic acid or a mixture thereof. By generating and delivering the nitric oxide directly to the patient in close proximity thereto, the formation of NO2 is minimized. One or both of the reactants may be in liquid form.

  • Patent number: 8910066
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for controlling the appearance of application windows on a computer display screen. A user identifies either an application window currently running on the computer or a new application to be started. The user also identifies a size, shape, and screen location by inputting a geometric shape, such as by drawing a rectangle with a pen or stylus input device, on the display screen. The appearance of the application window is set based on the geometric shape. The application window is resized and moved, for a currently running application, or created, for a new application, on the display screen.

  • Patent number: 8906698
Abstract: A method of measuring the fluorescence of a fluorescent marker compound dissolved or dispersed in a bulk material includes: (a) measuring a characteristic of the fluorescence of a mixture of said bulk material and said fluorescent marker compound; (b) quenching the fluorescence of the fluorescent marker compound to produce a quenched mixture; (c) measuring the characteristic of the fluorescence of the quenched mixture; (d) comparing the fluorescent characteristic of the mixture with the fluorescent characteristic of the quenched mixture; and (e) correcting the measured fluorescent emission characteristic for the effects of the absorbance of the bulk material. The measurement may be further corrected to account for the absorbance of the material which is also known to have an effect on the measured fluorescence. A method of tagging and identifying a bulk material with a fluorescent marker compound, and an apparatus for carrying out the methods are also described.

  • Patent number: 8908581
Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate operating an access terminal in an LTE based wireless communication environment utilizing extended microsleep. While in non-DRX mode, an access terminal can operate in on state for a first period of time and in extended microsleep state for a second period of time. Further, the first and second periods of time can form a repeating pattern where these periods of time alternate. Thus, the access terminal can turn on its receiver for the first period of time (e.g., decode downlink information while in on state) and turn off its receiver for the second period of time (e.g., inhibit decoding of downlink information while in extended microsleep state). Further, the first period of time in the repeating pattern can be one TTI (e.g., 1 ms) and the second period of time in the repeating pattern can be a plurality of TTIs (e.g., 5 ms).

  • Publication number: 20140359602
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to synchronizing configuration information between devices associated with a user. The synchronized configuration information can relate to application installations and uninstallations as well as to user modifications to user interfaces for managing and invoking the applications. For example, layouts of application representations provided by respective application launchers on a user's respective devices are kept automatically synchronized when the user modifies any of the layouts. Installations and uninstallations are similarly synchronized between the user's devices. Installations and uninstallations that might stem from synchronization may be circumscribed in various ways, such as by allowing the user to specify whether specific applications are to be installed/uninstalled only on specific devices or globally, by filtering propagation of synchronization updates according to hardware or software features and incompatibilities, or others.

  • Publication number: 20140359232
Abstract: A method and apparatus of a device that includes a shared memory hash table that notifies one or more readers of changes to the shared memory hash table is described. In an exemplary embodiment, a device modifies a value in the shared memory hash table, where the value has a corresponding key. The device further stores a notification in a notification queue that indicates the value has changed. In addition, the device invalidates a previous entry in the notification queue that indicates the value has been modified. The device signals to the reader that a notification is ready to be processed.

  • Patent number: 8904267
Abstract: The present invention is a system, method and apparatus for converting a slide show presentation for use within a non-presentation application such as a Web conferencing or virtual classroom application. In accordance with the present invention, a slide show presentation in its native format can be processed to extract slide title information for each slide in the slide show presentation. Additionally, important text within slide further can be extracted. Each slide in the slide-show can be converted to a raster image and disposed within markup. The markup can be annotated with the important text and both the markup and the slide title can be provided to the non-presentation application for use in concert with the non-presentation application. In this way, the context of each slide can be preserved for use within the non-presentation application as can an image of each slide itself.
