    Abstract: An apparatus which includes a closure member and delivery systems for closing vessels in the body of a patient is disclosed. In one embodiment, the closure member is a hemostatic closure member having a cylindrical shape and an expandable volume on contact with fluids. The hemostatic member includes a functional passageway through the length of the member so that it may be mounted over a delivery catheter or wire guide for delivery against a vessel puncture or into another vacuslar environment, such as to fill an aneurysm sac. In another embodiment the closure member is a fallopian tube closure member which is deployed into the fallopian tube over a guide wire to prevent conception. The fallopian tube member includes a loop-shaped frame having barbs, a first layer of material, a binding wire, a second layer of material, and an expandable volume on contact with fluids.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a device for closing or occluding ASDs and PFOs, or other bodily passageways, includes a circumferential frame, a sheet of biocompatible material attached to the frame, and at least one anchor attached to the sheet of biocompatible material. In another embodiment, the closure device includes a circumferential frame, at least one crossbar extending across and attached to the frame, at least one anchor connected to at least one crossbar; and at least one sheet of biocompatible material (such as ECM material) attached to the frame. The anchor includes at least one grasping member having a structure, such as a wired loop, which is configured for releasable attachment to a delivery release member, which facilitates delivery of a closure device collapsibly disposed in a delivery catheter. Alternatively, one or more anchor end pairs may be connected to a delivery bar enhancing delivery and retrieval of the device.

    Abstract: A device for occluding septal defects or other bodily passageways including PFOs, includes an occluding body formed from a plurality of flexible outwardly radiating occluding wires connected to one or more biocompatible sheet materials. The occluding wires are joined together at proximal wire ends. Linking members connectively link the occluding body to a flexible, substantially linear anchor formed from at least one tube, coil, or bar. The anchor is configured for placement on one side of bodily passageway, whereby the longitudinal axis of at least one anchor extends across a transverse cross-section of the bodily passageway, anchoring the occluding body in place against the other side of a bodily passageway to close, occlude, or fill at least a lumenal portion of a bodily passageway. The anchor may include one or more grasping member(s) integrally formed or connected to the tube, coil, or bar for releasable attachment to an anchor engaging member, such as a biopsy forceps.

At least one of the anchors includes a grasping member in the form of a loop or suitably shaped structure, which is configured for releasable attachment to an anchor engaging member, such as a biopsy forceps. In a further aspect a closure device assembly includes a closure device linked to the biopsy forceps and collapsibly disposed in a catheter. By positioning the catheter near a bodily passageway, such as a PFO, and disengaging the forceps from the grasping member, the closure device may be released so as to facilitate stable closure of a septal opening, such as a PFO.

Optionally, one or more elements can extend from the support frame/leaf structure to provide centering support and/or protection from the leaflet adhering to the vessel wall. In one embodiment, the centering support structure comprises a second or third expandable frames attached to and extending from the proximal and/or distal ends of main valve structure and support frame. In another embodiment, one or more support elements extend outward from the valve support frame to engage the vessel wall to provide greater longitudinal stability.
