  • Publication number: 20030171332
Abstract: A method is disclosed for treating and/or preventing bronchoconstriction induced by neutrophil elastase and tissue kallikrein activity. The method includes administration of aerosolized hyaluronic acid in an amount sufficient to bind to RHAMM (CD168) receptors along the apical surface of the airway epithelium, wherein the hyaluronic acid binds and retains secreted tissue kallikrein, thereby treating and/or preventing bronchoconstriction due to kallikrein activity.

  • Patent number: 6256484
Abstract: An inexepensive diversity receiver compares the received signal strength signal with a threshold value. When the received signal falls below the threshold value a signal is transmitted through a conductor and a delay circuit to a NAND gate. If the signal is applied to the the two inputs of the NAND gate at the same time, the output of the NAND gate switches a bistable flip-flop which in turn connects or disconnects a second antenna that is 180 degrees in phase from the first antenna between a state in which the signals from the two antenna is combined and a state in which they are not combined and only one antenna applies signals to the receiver.

  • Patent number: 6208650
Abstract: The present invention is a hardware implementation of frame relay switching functions which provides for real time concurrent multiple processes by implementing the processes in dedicated hardware logic operating in parallel, whereas in a typical software implementation the processes are sequentially processed. While data structures in software based implementations are accessed on some multiple of a byte regardless of the logical structure of the data, in the hardware implementation of the present invention the physical widths and the logical widths of the data structure elements are identical. This allows direct access of the logical structure by the operating process.

  • Patent number: 5132828
Abstract: Described is an electro/optical system for transmitting video information. The system includes a transmitter assembly interconnected via a fiber optic assembly to a receiver assembly. The transmitter assembly includes a circuit arrangement which generates a data stream of analog signals interspersed with control pulses. The data stream is transmitted through the fiber optic assembly. Changes in the control pulses are detected at the receiver and are used to adjust the gain of a video amplifier.

  • Patent number: 5102356
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a housing and an array of terminal members having posts extending from the housing and adapted for insertion into through-holes of a circuit board. At least one board retention means is formed on at least one of the posts and is axially located a selected distance from the lower surface of the housing to be within a corresponding through-hole after insertion. The retention means is a swage defining wall engaging surfaces for engaging sidewalls of a respective through-holes during mounting of the connector to board. The swage is formed such that the far side of the post remains coplanar with the axially adjacent surfaces and a swage embossment extends laterally outwardly from at least the second side, the embossment being formed by the work end of a tool striking the third side at an angle.

  • Patent number: 5070940
Abstract: Apparatus for deploying and energizing pumping apparatus including a submergible electric motor comprises a cable socket assembly and a cable connecting-and-sealing chamber assembly. The cable socket assembly has a housing that is connected at a lower end to an upper end of a housing of the cable connecting-and-sealing chamber assembly, the lower end of which is connected to a housing of the motor. The upper end of the housing of the cable socket assembly has an attachment portion provided with a breakaway connection to a weight-bearing cable. An electrical cable extends through the housing of the cable socket assembly to the housing of the cable connecting-and-sealing chamber assembly, which is divided by the body of a penetrator into upper and lower chambers. Sets of conductors in the chambers are connected, respectively, to the electrical cable and to the motor, and are interconnected with each other via feed-through elements (mandrels) associated with the body.

  • Patent number: 4620187
Abstract: A plurality of signal coupling transformers and a plurality of solid state switches are used to insert and/or de-insert data terminal equipment (DTE) from a communications network. The solid state switches are controlled to short the output of selected transformers thereby allowing signals on the communications network to bypass the DTE and/or to be switched into the DTE. The DTE may also loop electrical signals from its output to its input.

  • Patent number: 4574228
Abstract: A switching regulator causes a supply voltage to be intermittently chopped to provide energy pulses in a lowpass filter circuit. The lowpass filter circuit includes a capacitor which is being charged by the chopped energy pulses and whose output is used to drive a low voltage stepper motor. The duty cycle of the energy pulses is a function of the average value of the stepper motor coil current. By correlating the duty cycle of the energy pulses with the average current in the motor coil a relatively high torque is provided to drive the motor during a startup phase and is automatically adjusted to meet the running requirements of the particular stepper motor.
