  • Patent number: 5202955
Abstract: A set of confluences is deemed to be inconsistent by determining that there exists no set of values that can be assigned to all unknown variables of the confluences which result in a consistent set of predictions. Values are iteratively assigned to variables until either all unknown variables have been assigned a value or until a determination is made that no value of a particular variable will result in a consistent set of predictions. Values are assigned first to variables which appear in confluences having only two unknowns and then said values are propagated through the confluences of the hypothesis.

  • Patent number: 5187773
Abstract: A Qualitative Reasoning System (QRS) performs machine failure isolation by generating a plurality of pending hypotheses which assume the failure of one or more machine components and by testing each of the hypotheses by propagating actual values for machine parameters through confluence equations for the hypothosis being tested. Hypotheses which produce an inconsistent set of predictions are discarded while hypotheses which produce a consistent set of predictions are saved. The hypotheses are generated using a model instance data element which contains a qualitative physics model description of the machine. The machine failure is isolated when all but one hypothesis, which assumes the failure of one or more elementary machine components, remains.

  • Patent number: 5141155
Abstract: The nozzle comprises a wear pipe (k) arranged in a supporting pipe (c) and comprising a nozzle tip (1) which by an external thread is screwed into an insert (e) at the outlet end of the nozzle housing (b). At the inlet end thereof, the wear pipe (k) carries a counter nut (m). The position of the nozzle tip (1) in the injection hole of a mould is adjusted by the nozzle tip being rotated in the thread of the insert (e), and after a fine adjustment the counter nut (m) is tightened against the back of the nozzle housing (a).

  • Patent number: 4641537
Abstract: The invention relates to an electromagnetic flow meter of the type having a cylindrically shaped tube section with two magnetic poles each having a core section carrying a winding attached to the outside and on opposite sides of the tube section. Smaller dimensions and lower losses in the magnetic circuit are achieved by providing a casing or yoke unit formed of sheet metal members and having U-shaped core sections. The core sections have central webs adapted to the curvature of the pole shoes and rectangular coils are disposed respectively between the associated pole shoes and sheet metal yoke members.

  • Patent number: 4635486
Abstract: The invention relates to an electromagnetic flow meter with a magnetic system having two magnetic poles which are attachable to a measuring tube from the outside, an outer yoke, and at least one separating gap. Each pole has a pole shoe and a core section carrying a winding which is connected at the radially outward end thereof without a gap to the adjoining magnetic system portion and the separating gap is disposed beyond the magnetic path for the stray flux.

  • Patent number: 4614121
Abstract: An electromagnetic flow meter having a magnet system with pole shoes on opposite sides of a measuring tube, a magnetic coil arrangement with a yoke for the magnetic return circuit, and two measuring electrodes between the respective pole shoes. The magnetic coil is coaxial with the measuring tube and surrounds the pole shoes and the pole shoes are connected to the yoke by radially extending webs at opposite ends of the magnetic coil.

  • Patent number: 4574831
Abstract: The invention relates to a security device which discourages tampering with the operating or control element of a manually settable device of the type which has a window through which the control element is accessed. The security device has the form of a strap which surrounds the housing of the manually settable device and covers the access window. The ends of the strap are permanently connected such that the strap would have to be destroyed to be removed.

  • Patent number: 4498524
Abstract: A method and means for extracting heat from an exhaust stack under highly corrosive and fluctuating conditions. An in-line exhaust gas heat exchanger having selective dual concentric exhaust paths and having a plurality of longitudinal structural stringers to insure against weakening of the exhaust stack. A plurality of heat exchanger coils are located in the outermost exhaust path and means is provided for fully draining the liquid contents thereof. Temperature control method means is provided for regulating the temperature of fluid within the coils due to exhaust stack temperature fluctuations for controlling critical dew point situations.

  • Patent number: 4445239
Abstract: An upper horizontal rail structure is stationarily supported in elevated position above the upper marginal edge of the outer wall of the lower tub portion of a shower-tub area and defines three laterally spaced depending inner, outer and intermediate flange portions between which inner and outward downwardly opening channels are formed. A pair of upstanding inner and outer shower doors are provided including upper marginal edge portions slidably received in the corresponding channels and each upper marginal edge includes a pair of opposite end support rollers rollingly engaged with longitudinally extending track structure in the corresponding channel.

  • Patent number: 4327303
Abstract: The rotor assembly comprises a shaft, a rim structure, and a spider for connecting the rotor rim to the shaft. The spider structure incorporates a number of rigid arms which are secured to and extend radially from the shaft. The ends of the rigid arms are secured such that free radial motion of the rotor rim is permitted with respect to the spider, but angular motion between the rotor rim and the spider is prevented. The rotor assembly further contains a plurality of flexible cross beams and associated floating arms. The cross beams extend between adjacent spider arms, while the floating arms are firmly connected between the middle section of the cross beams and the inner surface of the rotor rim. The cross beams flex in and out in radial directions as the rotor rim contracts and expands, respectively, due to centrifugal or thermal forces.
