  • Patent number: 6732043
Abstract: A method of determining the starting ability of a starter battery of an internal combustion engine, according to which a charge status of the starter battery is determined, which has an influence on starting ability. Also determined is a temperature which has an influence on starting ability, in particular the temperature of the starter battery. Moreover, an average voltage drop of the starter battery during a starting phase is calculated or determined, in particular during a turn-over phase of a starter motor, which is in an operative connection with the starter battery. The starting ability of the starter battery is estimated by comparing the calculated or determined average voltage drop with a threshold value.

  • Publication number: 20040056634
Abstract: A circuit configuration for monitoring the state of charge of an accumulator battery, which is installed in particular in a motor vehicle, has a control unit that records and evaluates the flow of current out of or into the accumulator battery. The control unit is able to be shifted into a state with low current consumption (sleep mode), out of which it may be brought again by an activation signal. Moreover, a sensor is provided that emits a signal in response to a flow of current out of or into the accumulator battery.

  • Publication number: 20040032264
Abstract: Methods are described for determining the state of charge and/or the operability of a charge accumulator using estimates, the information, which is obtained at at least two different operating points or operating conditions of the energy accumulator, being taken into account in the estimates. The estimates are carried out with regard to an instantaneous and/or future state of charge and/or an instantaneous and/or future operability of the charge accumulator. Different methods are executed, depending on the operating point or operating condition. The methods are usually run in a processor of a control unit.

  • Patent number: 6668233
Abstract: A method for detecting the status of an energy storage means (1) provides that its actual values (2, 3, 4) can be supplied to an estimate routine (5). The actual values (2, 3, 4) can be supplied in a decoupled manner to a model-based parameter estimator (5) and to a filter (7), which are subordinate to a monitoring level (12). Parameterization values (8, 11) obtained are supplied to a predictor (17) that extrapolates the behavior of the energy storage means (1).

  • Publication number: 20030052690
Abstract: Method of determining the state of charge soc of a battery, in particular a starting battery of a motor vehicle; the state of charge being calculated, in a first operating range, on the basis of a model calculation in which a measured and a calculated battery voltage UBatt, UBatt′ are balanced, using feedback.

  • Patent number: 6531874
Abstract: A method of determining the charge status of a battery, in particular an automotive battery, comprising the following steps: determining a first battery charge status socU0 on the basis of a measurement of the no-load voltage of the battery, determining a second battery charge status soci on the basis of integration of a battery current over time, and forming a weighted average from battery charge states socU0 and soci thus determined, to obtain an average battery charge status soc.

  • Patent number: 6515454
Abstract: A method for estimating the capacity of a battery, including the following steps: estimation of a steady-state voltage UR, an internal resistance R1 and an internal voltage drop UK of the battery, caused by a density difference in the battery acid; initialization of a model describing the battery in order to estimate the capacity, using estimated values UR, R1 and UK; stimulation of the initialized model with predefined load current characteristic IBatt, stim, in particular a simulated load current characteristic of a consumer in operative connection with the battery, in order to obtain a voltage response UBatt, pred of the model, representing the battery voltage given the predefined load current characteristic; comparison of the voltage response UBatt, pred of the model with a predefinable, minimal battery voltage UBatt, limit, and estimation of the capacity of the battery by comparing UBatt, pred and Ubatt, limit.

  • Patent number: 5752748
Abstract: A central control module generates nominal values for braking based on a pedal input value form a pedal sensor which detects actuation of the brake pedal by the driver, and sensor signals representing wheel speeds. First and second brake control modules transmit sensor signals to the central module, receive nominal values from the central module, and transmit nominal values to the actuators. The first brake control module receives the pedal input value from the pedal sensor directly, and calculates the nominal values as a function of the pedal input value when the central module has failed.
